A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Compliments Thom Yorke’s magnificently soothing voice. $2.69 for the 12 FL OZ bottle purchased from Top Shelf Brews. Smells and tastes of pungent American hops, spent cereal grain, yeast flakes, and caramel. Pine bark, and plastic by swallow. Alcohol prevalent. Decent stuff.

I remember the 2012 being better than the 2013, but I never got around to reviewing it. Standard imperial IPA with a bulky malt palate and sensational hop flavor. Nothing to turn your nose up to but something off putting on the palate. Much like how Ruthless Rye changed for the worst. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the moment I popped the top off I could smell the hops. Very strong hop flavors with a sorta liqour twang. Very pinish with a ceder tree hint in there. Overall a very good brew, just wish it was a little less on the wallet to get them. So while yes I would like to drink these all summer will have to go with the Torpedo instead due to cost.

Two things make this the best IIPA I've had... 1) It's a fantastic beer, and 2) its availability made possible the opportunity to imbibe it.

Really strong hop flavor, but also slightly sweet. Like Hopslam, but stronger. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a semi-clear copper orange color with a foamy white head. Aroma is woody, syrup, hops and outdoors, leaves. Flavor is thick hops and spice, sweet notes and a thick tingle on the palate. Finish also has a cough syrup like quality to it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is truly a kind brew! It has a hoppy taste, in keeping with the Sierra tradition. It has a citrusy feel to it with a little horsey kick to it. This not a chug a lug beer. This is one you sit down and savor. It comes in a four pack so share it with your bro and listen to some Mercyful Fate to it. It’s really cool! Go check it out friend!!!

pours clear golden with a minimal white head, some retention and lacing. floral, citrusy, piney, spicy, woodsy. smooth caramel, grainy toastiness. boozy, some sweetness. moderate carbonation, medium to full body, medium long citrusy-piney finish, complex hop profile, semi-sweet backbone malt bill, barleywine-like. heavy stuff but i liked it.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2015 12oz bottle with a picture of me after I drank a couple of these (my entire head managed to turn itself into a hop bud). Poured clear orange-ish with a white head that did not stick around long. Very big on hop flavors and bitterness as expected but well balanced with plenty of sweetness and very little alcohol taste despite the huge abv. Well done and so I am I now. 8-8-15 Rediscovered these on our annual family camping trip and am still impressed. Upping the rating a couple points higher.

Clear burnt orange with white head. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is citrus and pine. Very bitter finish. No dogfish head 90 minute, but still nice.
