A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Bottle- 2012. Dark orange in colour. Fantastic hop aromas and wonderful over the top hop flavours and bitterness.

Poured from a stubby bottle into a pint glass. Aroma: tree-like green smell with a hoppy sweet resin. This is a very unique smell for me so it is pretty good. Appearance: A Hazy Golden with very little head. Taste: HOPS, like literally pure hops somewhat overbitter with a taste that I can’t pinpoint exactly but it’s close to a woody green taste, but not like a new beer. Palate: slightly slick feel on the tongue and goes down very carbonated and full with a alcohol breath. Overall: Interestingly not my first DIPA or even my 10th but this is a pretty good one that doesn’t burn the my tongue with hops from the get go fortunately, I’ve had some bad experiences where I could only taste the first sip and then from there on and throughout the night I only felt the beer. Not enough head for my tastes but that can vary by brew sometimes and age.

I smell a green hoppy flavor with a slight hint of a fruity note. The color is a pale bronze with a small white head. It looks to be medium bodied and is mostly clear. The taste is slight malty sweet then bitter, the aftertaste does taste like grapefruit...peel...the bitterness is not horriblybstrong but there could be a bit more maltiness. But it is an imperial ipa. So not bad. It is indeed a medium bodied beer that leaves ur toung dry and thirsty each drink. Over all not bad but needs a bit more hop aroma it did not have to much for being an imperial ipa. Worth a try.

Given the high ABU, remarkably smooth and lacks the boozy finish. Fruity nose with hints of grapefruit. Very hoppy as expected from a DIPA. Would definitely get again.

a type of beer that attacks the whole mouth (side of tongue, gums, mouth) when you open this bottle up the deep strong smell of hops lets you know your in for a treat. its not a beer for beginners or someone who dont like crafts, bc this is the diffinition of "hoppy" i love it and i keep it stocked in my fridge, gonna enjoy one now. just the though of the hoptimum makes me thirsty

Pours a light clear caramel color with aroma of typical spice and hops of an IPA. Taste is typical hops for IPA just a little overdone. The grapefruit notes can be tasted after the swallow along with the bitter hop flavor. A decent IPA, with hoppy flavor.

Bottle. Pours a brilliant golden orange with a decent white coloured head. Hangs around for a while. Aromas are dominated by the hops as expected. Mainly pine resin with tropical fruit salad in support. Some sweet caramle hiding in the back ground. Good stuff. Flavours are once again all about the hops. No tmuch else going on by resiny hop bitterness. Fullish mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Thanks Dennis for the bottle! Pours a golden orange with little to no white head that dissipates really quickly. Smell is quite hoppy, mostly pine, but lacks a bit in overall strength. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, and has decent carbonation. Taste is really interesting. It starts off with a hint hoppy bitterness, then weakens a bit only to come back with a vengeance totally masking the alcohol taste and having a nice long lasting aftertaste. Really interesting beer, wish I had more of them.

Amber with a wispy tan head and lots of lace. Aroma of caramel, sweet malt, citrus, tropical fruits and mango. Stellar taste of tropical fruits, citrus, caramel, mild pine, light booze, caramel with a sweet moderate bitter finish. One of the best DIPAs out there!

12 oz bottle pours a hazy dark orange with decent beige head and good lacking. Smell is full of citrus and piney hops. Aroma is all about the hops, with some bready malts behind them. Mouthfeel is sticky (thanks to the huge caramel malt backbone). Taste is not as bitter as I had expected. A very good example of a favorite style, which belongs among the top 50 (but not top 10) IIPAs.
