A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Pours a clear golden copper with an eggshell, foamy head that retains well. Dried fruit, fresh grapefruit, and pine bouquet. Monstrous hop flavor that is balanced nicely by the grain. The unfortunate consequence is the alcohol that invades the finish. Sweet grapefruit and pine flavors up front, but the bitterness lingers a little too long on the palate. However, the olfactory and initial palate experiences combine to be nearly heavenly. Really good effort by Sierra Nevada.

From bomber. Hazy orange color with decent head. Wonderful full nose of citrus hops. Taste follows but adds a balanced sweet malt that finishes mellow.

0.355l bottle shared. This is a light cloudy honey-colored one with a small slightly islandy and sidesticking just off-white top. Smells both fresh, fruity and sweet. Almost sticky that typical DIPA aroma. Red berries, pine, peach and apricot. Not bad at all! Gentle comfortable on the carbonation and slightly sticky-oily on the mouthfeel. Lively pine-bitter, but not to much. No traces of the 10.4% and that’s really impressive. Peaches, apricots and some cortex. Yes, a really fine hoppy one! 09.01.2013

Aroma is of super fresh, fruity hop - really present. Beautiful, fresh hop taste hits first, followed by a lot of bitterness, with a massively lingering fruity, hoppy aftertaste. Stays for quite a while. Lingering bitterness. Tastes really good, really fresh. Big hop hit with awesome taste. Great mouthfeel, good carbonation. Strong in pretty much every way, I would say. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a hazy amber colour with big frothy beige head. Aroma is malt with plenty of fruits, some caramel, floral notes, pine and hops. Taste is medium sweet leading to big choppy but well balanced finish. Fantastic!

Citrusy with some orange and grapefruit. Hops also add a floral almost woody note. Pretty good stuff by a pretty consistent brewery.

A nice foam head and a beautiful orange amber color. The scent is of malts, hops, and medium citrus notes. As for flavor the hops dominate at the start of the taste and weaken just enough to allow for the other ingredients to emerge. The finish is bitter, hoppy, and of malts. Over time the finishing flavor fades. The Hoptimum impacted my palate but that was expected. Overall this was a fine beverage but it is more of an over the top DIPA than a marketable and tasty brew. I like to try unique beverages and I was glad to have knocked this one back.

Lost for words really. The best Imperial IPA I’ve had by a mile (good ones are hard to come by here in Australia.) Dry, bitter and incredibly refreshing for such a strong beer, this really blew me away. The taste of this one will stick in my memory a long while.

12 oz bottle from Outlet Liquors in Rehoboth Beach DE, served in a tulip. Pours clear amber with a moderate, fluffy tan head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of lace. The nose has huge grapefruit and citrus, along with pine and resin. There is a hint of biscuity malts and caramel, but this is secondary to the huge hop presence. The flavour starts out moderately bitter, but soon becomes intensely so. There is a moderate candy sweetness with tropical fruit, but it pales in comparison to the huge resinous, citric, piney bitterness. It dries out towards the finish, ending on a long, lingering hoppy note with a peppery accent. On the palate, it is medium in body with a dry texture and average carbonation. Overall, this is a nice imperial IPA. It is huge in both hops and alcohol but strangely satisfying. Very well constructed and worth another try. A great summer sipper. 2012-06-24

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2013 Bottle from mane liquor. This is a big beer! Pours a deep clear golden with a thick white head. Lychee, grapefruit and pine hops are jumping out of the glass!! Massive aroma. Taste is very bitter with a nice sweetness coming through. Grapefruit dominates the flavour. Chewy grapefruit/biscuit bitterness. It’s sitting on 10% and is surprisingly well balanced. Goes down pretty well too. Great beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
