COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

12oz bottle into a snifter. Pours an almost clear dark orange with a thin fizzy head that is quick to fade leaving a ring around the side of the glass. Aroma is wonderful citrus hops with a little bit of pine thrown in. A touch of alcohol along with some caramel. The flavor is an explosion of hoppy goodness with tons of citrus in the way of pineapple and orange. There is a little bit of pine but it is more in the background. Some caramel and toffee along with bready malt is there to back up the hops. Huge bitterness attacks the taste buds and lingers on the back of the throat long after the finish. Alcohol becomes noticeable through the nose but is not overwhelming. Overall, a good but not quite spectacular beer. A slightly better than average IIPA but is still can’t touch Hopslam in my opinion. Don’t think I will be picking up another four pack.

Sheerbrewing (117) - Athens-Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 5, 2012
Bottled, pours a medium amber with thick off white head. Aroma is a hop medley that has citrus and grapefruit little bit of a woody note. Heavy mouthfeel with strong alcohol presence. Flavor is huge hop with a lot of complexity there is a lot of different hop character with a full and rich malt backbone that provides nice warmth. Overall this is a must try for a hop head looking for something interesting with a high abv, would love to try this aged in oak.

12 ounce bottle from a 4-pack. Nice marketing on this one; the label really stood out. This is a great imperial/double IPA! Reminded me of Great Divide Hercules. Over the top amounts of hops and malt fermented to a high ABV. Just my style. Sierra Nevada just keeps putting out better and better beers. I hope this one will not be as seasonal as Bigfoot.

Orangey yellow with a foamy white head. Tons of citrus aroma. Harshly bitter but impressively easy to drink with all the alcohol. Sweet and resinous with a sticky mouthfeel. Great beer.

Syrup, hops, brown sugar, cinammon. Beautiful appearance. Tastes like a standard Sierra Nevada IPA with more ABV and sweetness (but not overwhelmingly so). Great beer!

Hops in the nose, in the mouth, in the back of the throat. Rich and unyielding hops. The high alcohol content delivers a warm and fuzzy punch, but it also tends to get too cloying and sweet. This is typical with these strong IPAs. This would be a fine beer to sip on a late fall evening.

Little head on the pour. Honey-colored in the glass. Outstanding aroma - floral scents. Great taste is slightly marred by heavy ABV. Dry, bitter finish sticks to the palate for quite awhile. Enjoyable beer but a bit harsh.

Bottle. Awesome... Huge hops, strong malt.... sweet Imperial IPA. Thick/syrupy on the palate... maybe a bit much, wish it was a little dryer on mouthfeel... solid after a shake or two. One of the best Imperial IPA’s I’ve had.

Where to start? This was pure unadulterated hoppy goodness, really balanced and tasty and sooooo easy to drink. A winner for hopheads!

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2012 I dont know how to really describe this beer accept its completely hopalicious! The first three or four swigs are a little bitter/and crisp but then the tast Buds shift then its a pure hops fest! Citrusy and piney floral, taste and aroma, great beer! Reminds me of dog fish head 90 minute with slightly less malt sweetness.
