COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

It pours an amber colour with a thin white head. The aroma is loaded with citrus, pine and a bit of fruit. The flavor has a slight malt sweetness which quickly gives way to the bitter hops. Peppery and dry, very refreshing for such a big beer.

Hazy deep amber beer, tidy off white head. Softish palate, slightly silky. Creamy malt and minor aniseed alcohol. Bitterish grapefruit, a little minerally peach. Finishes soft with light orange and peach. Nice drinkable DIPA but lacks the hop complexity of the best.

12 oz bottle: I wish I had remembered to rate this when fresh, but 6-8 months later and it is still really good. Pours a nice orange color with a white head. Good lacing, nice CO2 release. Aroma of spruce, citrus and floral hops, nice caramel malts. Taste is a complex hop profile but is also nicely balanced to bring out the flavors. I really like this beer and will re rate it next year when it come out again. Smooth for 10%, easy to drink, fun, fulfillig.

Okay, very strong and intense, I like my IPAs less intense than this imperial.

This may be the hoppiest tasting and smelling brew that I have ever had to date. Smell and taste the hops. Good golden color with a nice forming head and good lacing. Good brew overall. Almost tooooo much!

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2013 Wow, what a great double IPA. Super hoppy with a slightly strong malty backbone that’s quite sweet. The bitterness isn’t overpowering, but man is it tasty! A great mouth-feel as well - quite viscous for a non-stout.

My mouth is on fire. This beast begins with a nose that blends citrus, greenwood and hugely resinous weed. Then comes a flavour that, as the description says, follows the nose well. Puckeringly rich and spicy hops abound and it leaves a fiery, full on finish that has you both gasping and gasping for more. Hop heaven.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2013 Bottle->SA. Copper with small offwhite head. Aroma is sweet hops, grass, and pine. Taste is deep and pungent hops, almost but not quite too much. Lasting bittersweet finish. Good.

Pint from the tap at Haymarket in Chicago. Sweet and pleasantly hoppy. Small amounts of grass and resin on the back end. Long, long flavor duration. Bright orange appearance, small amount of lacing, floral nose with some orange citrus notes, medium to light bodied. Overall B+.
