3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 cbeers21 (693) - Miami, Florida, USA - FEB 4, 2011
Light copper with a touch of foam and a lasting ring around the glass. Potent dusty hops backbone is present with a spicy caramel sweetened. Pined hops are there for the taking as well as the light sugared peaches. Slight attic funkiness is prevalent with a quiet oaky vanilla. A potent hop brew with an easy drinkability. Not overpowering but a solid brew.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2012 Pours clear gold with a frothy beige head that laces well. Aroma of freshly cut pine branches, orange, earthy dankness. Taste is awesome, lots of bitterness, toffee sweetness, some cherry. Hefty bitter finish. Medium body, rich carbonation.... Another bottle. Awesome color, alcohol is fairly apparent in the taste, lots of pine and tropical fruit sweetness, great beer.

Excited to try this one.
The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the orange and pine from the hops. The flavor is similar. I get some caramel, orange and pine. The bitterness is about medium. The beer is also very boozy, much more than I expected. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very tasty, I just wish the alcohol was a little bit more subdued.

Bottle shared with my 80 year old Hop-Head of a Dad. I just hope I can enjoy these beers 40 years from now. This beer surprised me in many years. Pours a bright, clear amber with a wonderful aroma of hops. I was impressed with the beauty of this beer with the huge, creamy head. Flavors of this IPA are hops, hops, glorious, piney hops. Amazingly balanced and big at 10.4%, this beer is fresh, flavorful, resinous, fruity and delicious.

Just picked this beer up Tuesday. Couldn’t wait any longer to pop open this baby. Pours a brilliant orange-copper with a beautiful pillowy oft head that just floats on top of this exciting brew. You can smell the hops with this beer just sitting on the coffee table. No need to bury your nose in this one but when you do, you’re in for a fantastic resin, floral and citrus treat. Theres so many different kinds of hops to give it a complex aroma and flavor. It starts with some sweet grapefruit and floral flavors then gets overtaking by a huge wave of hops bitterness than stays on the tongue for awhile. Can kind of detect the alcohol in the finish. Has kind of a chewy texture. Sticks to the glass like glue. This is just a phenomenal beer. Great job by Sierra Nevada. Any hop head will love this intense brew.

Awesome brew! Pours pure golden with amber tinge, big fluffy pearl head. Earthy hop aromas with citrus and a big malt on top of hops. Candy all the way through, grapefruit, pines that bight back, malty backbone, earthy hop finish - maybe some cedar...this is what excitement tastes like!

if only every beer was this good. or every drink. or every food. hops are evenly spread out throughout the whole body. the flavor is bold and assertive but the bitterness isn’t cloying or tongue scraping or chalky in the slightest. the flavor is downright delicious and still has signature SN stamp on it. it’s like a torpedo that has reached full sexual maturity or something and is ready to give birth in the wild to beautiful creatures in a perfect world. it should be on the discovery channel or something in its natural habitat. truly outstanding double IPA with its own characteristics, not just another peachy chalky hop bomb to make you go back to dark beers for awhile again.
