A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Wow! A delicious and hoppy beer. Aroma was nice. Grapefruit rind, melon, pepper. Pour was a nice medium gold with a one finger white head. Taste was big and hoppy. Very bitter grapefruit rind, grass and sweet malt. Tastes like thick and resinous hop juice. Nice carbonation and a long bitterly dry aftertaste. One of the best beers I’ve had all year.

Bottle share with ol’ Chipalsa the Barnacle Buster. Whaaaaattt!!!! Nose is plenty of sweet caramel, pine, and citrus. Floral and grassy notes, too. This one is quite balanced in the aroma. Plenty of both malt and hops. This is a hop heads brew for sure. This one is quite sweet but has huge hop flavors of pine and citrus. Bronze colored with a medium body, this brew is sure to please those looking for an intensely hopped brew.

Snifter --> Had a nice and clean golden, body with light bubbles leading up to a huge billowy white head. There was an incredible, almost spicy floral hop aroma with traces of honey and grapefruit. After the scent wakes you up, the taste buds are gifted with a massive hop body. The light malt character has a fresh citrus flavor - and just enough to sort of balance this brew. The finish was clean and dry, not too bitter but perfect for a hop head.

Draft: Pours amber/orange with a finger of creamy beige head. Pungent aroma of florals and grapefruit. Tastes thick with hops... chewy and rich, florals and citrus hops with just enough maltiness to keep things in check. Really enjoyable.

This must be the sequel to the original. Pretty solid DIPA with aromas of grapefruit. Fairly sweet but a nice bitter hop finish. Very smooth and creamy palate. Recommended.

Lots of malt and a bit of fruit in the nose. Pours clear golden brown. Moderate head. Very sweet, only mildly bitter. Very easy to drink. Don’t get any of the ABV. Glad to have tried it, kinda suprised it was produced by Sierra Nevada O_o.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2012 Pours a dark copper with not much head. Smell is dank pine needles and rich hop aroma. Nice syrupy mouthfeel and the taste is a luscious citrus and floral hops with a beautiful malt backbone. Chewy and pleasant double ipa

Pine, citrus, some ammonia’c like qualities, very aggressive. Fantastic DIPA from Sierra. What an explosion of flavor. Flavor is similar with more tropical and some slight creaminess on the mouth.

Pretty much follows though on the promise with strong hop aroma and insane hop flavors. Smooth mouthfeel follows, and a strong alcohol kick. Not for those who don't love bitterness; but for those who do, a must have. Powerful, palate destabilizing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
