COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

clear color like yellow blushing amber, slightly off white head. full hop assault on the nose, almost peppery, abundant, first taste goes in so many directions, resin bordering on smoke. grapefruit going over the edge and coming back, alcohol, hints of floral syrup. I feel the traces—resin, alcohol, etc—with the air passing in and out my mouth, 7

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2013 Pours hazy copper with tan head. The Aroma is very very spicy and so is the taste. The first drink the hoppy bite and spiciness is overwhelming, in a very good way. Tropical fruit and citrus, and its fairly sweet, tons of piney bitterness also. Finishes very bitter and it sticks around a long time. Some alcohol bite. I really like this stuff...Updated this for the 2013 version.

Bottle pour into tulip. Strong hoppy nose. Beautiful to look at; hard to wait for the head to settle. The wait was rewarded. Hoptimum has the nice kick of a high ABV without knocking me over. It has the freshness I expect from a premium DIPA. Once again, Sierra Nevada comes through with a good tasting beer. I will pick up some of this every year.

Draft at Three Penny Taproom - Poured a slightly hazy golden-orange-amber in color with a tight medium head that held on to produce some very nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is a very heady mix of hops... primarily citrus/grapefruit, but also some pine mixed in. Flavor is very hoppy... lots of citrus with a hint of pine. Also quite fruity with a nice amount of balancing caramel malts. Finish is full of citrus hop flavor, medium bitter and lingering. *Really* nice...

Intense hop aroma and golden orange color. Thick and heavy, hops are citrusy with notes of pine and bubblegum. Very complex hop flavor, gentle fading finish, rather smooth for such intense hop flavor. One to sip and savor for sure, an occasion beer.

Clear copper gold light head with lacing. Aroma seems mild really but not,has some pine and just a mild hoppyness complex with floral musty fruit earthiness, raw grassyness, maybe some onion. Taste is very hoppy, top of the tounge and mouth spicey bittering some salt, with a smooth creamy maltiness, some fruit tones, carmel, slickness, and more hops, with a piney bittering grapefruit more salt menthol like strong bittering.Very nice seems a bit on the salty side than i rember it from the last years.

12 oz. bottle poured to a shaker at Lunar Brewing Co. displaying a clear, orange/golden color, with off white, moussy froth to the persistent head, and wavey cling to the lacing. The aroma was fresh white grapefruit with a follow up note of pine. The flavor added a medium, full palated hop bitterness that was earthy, rind-like, and stayed fairly pungent into the finish. Medium+ body, with good alcohol warmth, but would have liked some malt sweetness to balance off the taste experience even more.

It poured a copper/orange color with a white head. The aroma was of resinous pine sap, some sweet caramel malts, toffee, honey, citrus, and tropical fruits. The taste was of sweet caramel and biscuit malts, with honey, and bitter resinous hop oils. Awesome!!!

Dark clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of fruity pebbles, flowers and citrus. Taste of fruity pebbles, citrus and caramel and pale malts. Mostly sweet and fruity with little actual bitterness. Medium bodied.
