COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2012 Tried on tap at Temple Brewery and bottle at home! Clear golden body with a touch of amber, floral hops on the nose also some malt coming through, balanced taste, grapefruit notes and some pine, lovely full bitterness, drank really easily for a high alcohol beer.

Bottle. Amber with an off-white head. Aroma of a melange of citrus fruits (including lime, which I can’t recall before in a beer), passionfruit, white grapes, orange blossoms. Somewhat syrupy body. Sweet before substantial bitterness - caramel, apricots, white grapes - lots of citrus, light spices. There’s no harshness about the hops though the finish is almost buzzing, but they do struggle until they break free of the sweetness. Started at 10C, much better as it warmed and the flavours had a bit more room to move.

As if SN could mess up any hopped up beer as they wrote the book on these styles. Anyway, big citrus fruit in the nose and palate. Not as resinous and danky as the usual SN house flavor hop profile, but this one is more tropical fruit with floral notes. Malt is there to balance it out but doesn’t stand in the way of the hop assault. Well done. Lovely brew.

A frontal assault on my tongue. Great balance on the nose with very floral hoppage and rich malts. Who really cares about the color (other than my wife)! Bitter, bracing, sweet, bitter, hoppy, sweet, yada, yada, yada. Lots of perfume base aromas here supported by a bready malt base. 10.4 % ABV, who knew! A very dangerous and drinkable brew!

On tap at Tap and Mallet. Pours a clear orange, with a nice amount of carbonation and a soapy white head. The aroma hits you with an onslaught of pine needles, backed up by sweet juicy hops. The taste is tongue tingling bitter with Oranges and pineapple. Nice amount of malts balancing it out. Pretty sweet, a bit boozy, very drinkable.

Courtesy of Ilsa from Nogne O, at our hotel in Drammen, Norway - thank you ma’am! Clear golden color, medium white head. Aroma of pine and citrus. Taste is sharp pine resin. Decent.

This is a very good beer. At over 10 Abv this is a very drinkable beer. The about of hops in this brew is complimented with the high alcohol content.

Copper color in the glass. Wonderful bright citrus and resin hop aroma. Balanced bitterness on the palate. Pleasant malt sweetness in the background. Well done.

Typical strong hop aroma - but a very sweet tasting IPA. Kind of a candy apple like taste, followed by rich, sweet hops, and then some more caramel like sweet flavors to finish. I'd call it a dessert IPA.
