3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle from 2012. Pours a deep orange with white head. Dissipates quickly. Aroma is slight floral, tropical, bitter hops but very minimal across the board. Taste is lacking and is more of a "Sierra Nevada" taste than anything else. The alcohol is once again very apparent which I was hoping would be tamed from the 2011 release. Overall, a nice change to 12oz bottles but this is getting a little run of the mill.

Floral citrus aroma and orange appearance lead into a strong hoppy taste and stronger hoppy after taste.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thin off-white head of fine bubbles with very good carbonation. Juicy peaches aroma with some light piney and herbal hops with some caramel malts. Color is a bright crystal clear copper. HOT brew. Big alcohol presence and warming from the first sip. Decent malt backbone to offset the large hoppy bitterness. More pine and some mint along with some bready malts and yeast. Alcohol kind of thins out the body and overpowers some of the flavor. Plentiful bitterness late swallow with some more herbs and a hint of pineapple very late. Surprisingly easy drinking and it goes down WAY to easy. A very good IIPA. Thanks to etowneraser for this one.

2.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
I’ve had many hop experiments, and I remember when the first dry hopped beer emerged some years ago. I know a few beers that are less balanced (less malts, sweetness, alcohol...just hop water kinds of things), and I’ve had quite a few badly-brewed beers that are more ugly-astringent in some way. But I don’t think I’ve ever had a high-end beer with more overall hop assault on the senses than this. Truly, it attacks from beginning to end, with a massive floral and grapefruit flavor and a long, long bitter finish. It was too much, and it had me begging for mercy. The high abv was nice, and I think may have helped it out (it wasn’t hot, just noticeable), but overall I couldn’t take it. I finished about 2/3rds of the bottle and drained-poured the rest. For my taste, brewers have now successfully found the upper limit of hops. I’m far more interested in the upper limits of sour. Bottle.

12oz bottle. Rating #522. Clear dark copper/gold pour with a nice white head that left some great lacing. Clean grassy aroma, light pine, fresh. Nice bitterness, more light pine with a mild citrus note with a bit of alcohol in the finish. (2297)

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured a clear medium orange color. The head was a few fingers high and off white with decent retention. Lots of earthy green smells, particularly pine. Also a bit of grapefruit liqueur, flower blossom, and a whiff of melon. Medium bodied with a hint of sweetness up front that gave way to assertive bitterness and some warming alcohol. In addition to pine, there were pale malt, orange zest, juniper berry, and subdued caramel flavors. The bitterness lasts and lasts. If you enjoy getting slapped around by pine, alcohol, and lots of bittering units, this one is for you.

An excellent double IPA! Over the top hops with a strong piney nose and finish. Nice golden amber hue, head doesn’t linger long. A beer for true hop heads!

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tulip snifter from bottle. A: simcoe, simcoe, simcoe: the best smell ever! slight pine. App: amber-gold, 4 finger white head that disperses ever so slowly! T: oh so hoppy, most certainly top hopped, slight citrus and slight alcohol on the front, and lots of obvious simcoe and alcohol in the back. P: not as bubbly as expected, but has a nice crisp feel with a nice dry, lingering aftertaste of hoppy goodness-simcoe on the back. Great beer, but one better, that is year-round: Hop Stoopid by Lagunitas.

Orange and golden color with a nice big white head...lot of good citrusy, and nice hop character. Decent DIPA..not my favorite, but enjoyable.
