Bottled@SBWF2011. Goldeny amber colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, floral and some mild caramel as well. Flavour is caramel malts, fruity, floral and grassy hops along with some slight earthyness. Hides the abv rather well, and is very pleasantly balanced.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Hazy pale amber, small head. Roch aroma where caramel meets grapefruit and resin. Sweet and full bodied. Dominated by sticky caramel, hops die out but still provide resiny bitterness. OK, no more.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ported from BA.
Poured from a bomber into a mason jar. Re-poured when there was room.
Orange, as imperial IPAs tend to be. Nothing new in terms of color. Then again, show me a color I’ve never seen before and I’ll probably die of shock.
Clear with a few bubbles. About a finger of head, but I generally try to prevent too much from forming when I pour an IPA.
Lots of hoppyness and citrus. A tad sweet smelling, but not overly so. Pure and clean.
Hops in the foreground, hops in the background. Fresh and tasty too. A citrusy zest accompanies. Malt undertones show up later on, just before the bitterness sets in. Hop forward, but manages to taste well-balanced.
Pretty full-bodied as far as IPAs go. Sharp and crisp too, with the alcohol peeling itself off your tongue afterwards.
Well, I drank a bomber no problem. In a night, I would probably be able to get through 2 of them easily, except for the price tag. It tastes very fresh and I’m sure it makes it’s presence known in the DIPA world.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Appearance: Clear amber-orange with billowing off-white head and loads of lacing. Sierra Nevada beers always look great.
Aroma: Spicy and bitter aroma with orange, grapefruit, pineapple and pine. A light underlying sweetness provides balance. As opposed to the appearance (and taste), the aroma of this and many other Sierra Nevada beers tends to dwindle as it sits in the glass. Still smells very good while it lasts.
Taste: An onslaught of grapefruit, orange and pine upfront with a light pineapple-like sweetness underneath. While I am sure the malts provide some backbone, I don’t taste much of them. This is a hop machine with a long lingering bitterness at the end.
Palate: Moderately low carbonation, fairly full and creamy body. Extremely dry finish but almost a little too warming and hot.
Overall: Other than being a titch too boozy (and a dwindling aroma), this is a fantastic DIPA. Something about it just tastes like Sierra Nevada, as (while I can definitely tell them apart) there is something similar about this beer, Celebration, Torpedo and Estate.
This really needs to be a little less limited next year, and a little less expensive as well. C’mon Sierra Nevada, make this a six-pack next year, even if you need to charge a Hopslam-like price, as that would still be a lot cheaper ounce for ounce.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber. Glowing hazy bright amber under a tall stone head with velvety lacing. As advertised, there’s a huge pine and grapefruit aroma followed with the same in the flavor. Lots of citrus with milk chocolate, caramel, mango and white pepper. Silky texture with plenty of prickly carbonation and a very dry, bitter and quick finish.
