COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

This is a very assertive DIPA. It’s aroma is stronger than Victory Hop Devil, which is saying a lot. Others have given descriptions, so I won’t duplicate. It’s an excellent strong IPA.

Bottle - clear gold with slim white head. Aroma of citrus hops, resin. Nice hoppy taste, citrus, resin, fruits, sweet malts, then big bitterness. Medium to full bodied, low carbonation, nice oily mouthfeel. Late warming alcohol, very long, very bitter finish. Excellent.

Still great even this isn’t fresh, not in the same league of dirtwolf but not so far. Floreal, piney and resinous ipa with caramalt and toffee on the frontcourt great balance and bitter finish. I like this one a lot

12 FL OZ bottle. PKGD 07/08/14. Pours a slightly hazy, deep gold colour with a dense, creamy, off white head which refused to settle. On drinking it left some nice lacing. Very floral aroma, pine, citrus, resin. A big whack of hops but pleasantly so. The bitterness dominates the taste but there is also a nice underlying malty sweetness. Medium to full bodied, thick texture, semi dry finish and a gentle alcohol warmth. Plenty of hops but some lovely balance to this one makes it very approachable. 9.

The biggest hop flavor beer I have had in a while. Almost too much but then I’d be a wuss. Pine. Resin tar and triple SNPA orange color fairly bitter but in a great way. Truly fantastic.

355 ml bottle from Ottakringer Shop, Vienna., bottled 04/17/14
Dark golden, clear body, with a big, creamy, off-white head.
Aroma of citrus, orange, fllowers, pine, some tropical fruits, lots of candy.
Tastes of grapefruit, flowers, resin, lots of lovely pine notes, some grass, honey and again lots of candy.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes bitter, quite dry, zesty, with resin, sweet malts, slight alcoholic and long-lasting, greatly determined pine notes.

Well, this bottle is very old, more than 9 months. Didn’t see this when I bought it, so I’m a bit pissed right now. That’s why the sweet malts stick out, but the hops are still well recognisable, while by far not in its full glory, I guess. You still get a hint how well balanced and enjoyably piney this is, pretty smooth for this high ABV. Hopefully I’ll be able to rate a fresher bottle some day.

Bottled 6/20/14. Thin amber-gold, medium head that lingers. Smell is deep pine resin, maple sap, bourbon, chocolate liquer. Taste is bittersweet, thick citrus rind, brief caramel note. Dry. I’d love this fresh.

Bottled on 07.08.14. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip on 09.10.14. A: Very citrusy. Orange, pineapple, and mango. I could smell it from an arm away while pouring. A: 4 finger head with an easy pour that is retained well. See through orange body. T: Pine and tropical fruit dominate. Caramel and spicy pepper are subtle. P: Smooth and crisp. O: This has too much malt and spiciness for my taste. It seemed strangely unbalanced for Sierra Nevada. I love West Coast IIPAs, but this didn’t taste much like one.

This b3er has quite a lot of hops. I like a lot of hops, especially in a light beer. This beer is not amazingly light. It is well rounded though. Good job.
