COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Pours bright orange with medium carbonation and a small white head. Nose is american hops. Very floral. Piney, citrus, and fruity, mostly oranges. VERY BITTER, deffinately did not expect it to jump out at me like this. Medium bodied with nice carbonation complementing the bitter fruity flavours from the hops. If I had to guess id say Citra and Cascade hops. The finish is dry and not very long but it works. Very great beer to sip on. I am pairing this with a grilled hamburger with garlic and red pepper seasonings. Not my favorite IPA to have with food, but not bad. Overall, this beer is a novelty to me, I wouldnt have more than one, but id love to drink this big beer on occasion. Something everyone should try for themselves

Poured into a taster showing moderate filtration and dark amber with sparse white foam. The nose shows sweet creamy malts The palate is lightly carbonated and very thick bodied almost to the point of syrup. Not sure if I got an off bottle, but a lot of sweet caramel malts on the start and a sharp IPA bitterness that is heavily tamed by the malty sweetness. Given it’s 100 IBU’s you can definitely taste it on the finish but a lot more malt than I enjoy.

Bam!! And this is coming from some one who loves hops to the max. But this is one hoppy beer. Perhaps the most intense hops bitterness I have ever tasted, barring a few silly ones. Pours with no head a lovely copper colour. Intense aroma. As pervious reviewer said, true that the sweet malt (probably added to offset the intense hops) does somehow take away from the hops combination. But overall a unique, excellent (and good for one at a time max) IPA.

Big hop aroma on this beer, both from the bottle and from the class, I could smell it from two feet away. It looks good, copper color, thick head. Flavor is a blend of hops and sweet malt, which takes away from the hops somewhat. I am not sure this was the best hop combination for this beer, I found it to get dry and herbal about half way through. Still, very good. It is one of the most hop-intense beers I have had in a long time.

From bottle. Pours a clearorange yellow with a nice white head. Aroma of citrus and some caramel. Taste is citrus, with an intensely nice full flavor of citrus with some fruits. Nice gentle sweetness. Dry bitter finish.

Tap, Hopcat, Ann Arbor, MI, USA. Clear gold, honey resin aroma. Sweet, more honey, mild finish. Great. Too smooth for the strength. But great.

Beautifully golden-orange, with thin beige head. Fruity aroma and fruity taste with an explosion of hops. Alcohol could have been hidden better. A great beer overall.

Mild tropical fruit and malt aroma. Clear burnt orange body with a mild thin head. Solid bitter blast to start but is balance with malt so it somewhat subdued more that one might expect at 100 IBU’s. Hint of tropical fruit taste behind the bitter bite. Enjoyable but beware for those sensitive bitterness, it’s not for the faint of heart.
