A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

355ml bottle from Vinmonopolet. Clear amber/golden body. Tiny light brown head. Aroma is mainly sharp, skunky hops. Lively in the mouth. Surprisingly sweet down the throat. The alcohol flavor and warmth is definitely present. Long lasting bitter aftertaste. Well balanced. A great IPA!

Quite simply, nectar from the gods ! Rich, powerful flavours and aromas. Started with this at the GBBF, mistake. Everything got fuzzy after and the other beers couldn’t compete. Best Ipa I’ve had.

Aroma: average flowers, spruce, light resin and citrus/grapefruit. Appearance: clear gold, average frothy white head. Taste: heavy sweet. Palate: fully body, creamy and thick texture, soft carbonation, massive hops, long duration. Overall: crazy IIPA, fantastic palate and aroma, massive complexity, delicious. Pint at GBBF 2014, Kensington.

Bottle. DIPA. Sierra Nevada. Let’s get ready to muuuumble! (After too much drinking.) A: Orange with copper tones. Fluffy off-white head. N: Black peppercorn, pineapple and orange syrup. Biscuit and rye bread. Ample spruce and earth from the hops. Fall leaves and grasses. T: Quite bitter, with a crackery base to prop up the hops. Wouldn’t put this one in front of a hop novice, for sure. M: Big booze presence throughout. Heavy, resinous body. Very dry at the end. O: The intense amount of booze is about the only reason to dislike this. (And I am knocking off points because the alcohol laces itself through this beer like a snake in an ivy ladder.) However, for serious hopheads, this will more than appease their thirst.
