COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Wowser! Sierra Nevada has done it this time. This one hits on all cylinders. Very nice balance between hops and malt. ABV is well hidden. Easy drinking. All in all a very nice beer here. One that I’ll revisit regularly. I was waiting for SN to put out a good IIPA. This is what I was waiting for!

Bottle to English pint glass. Pours hazy amber/orange, quick head, little lacing. Aroma...never came across such intense aroma from an ale. Hints of grapefruit, wild flowers, spruce, stone fruit and bread. The taste starts out sweet up front then the hops kick in creating an intense bitter flavor bomb. Full bodied, medium carbonation, a bit sticky resin mouth feel. Finishes quite dry with notes of pine, grapefruit, lemon, candy and well menthol, for lack of that note I can’t grab but comes from the alcohol content. This sucker is the best DIPA I’ve ever tasted. Nice job Sierra Nevada!

Sharp and crisp. Bitter, punchy hops, grapefruit and citrus zest. Easily drinkable despite the alcohol content. Complex, a bit of sweetness, a bit of earthiness.

On bottle. The aromas of this beer are like a punch on the nose, a combinaison of : piney, citrus, tropical fruits overwhelmed us like a ram on a castle door. In the mouth, a light caramel taste at first that rapidly leave place to the parade of heavy hops flavors : pine, resin and citrus. A long bitter aftertaste that stay on well after your last sip. A nice beer for hopheads ! Rating # 51

Hoptimum - Sierra Nevada Imperial IPA 10.4% ABV 100 IBU APPEARANCE: Pours a star-bright raw golden honey color. Produced a lovely dense off white creamy looking head that held it's retention nicely. After a few sips it settled into a nice cap with tons of lacing down the glass. AROMA: The bouquet opens up with nice fresh grapefruit zest followed by a sweet floral fragrance almost like a honey suckle flower. There is most definitely some citrus and pine swirling around that gets balanced out by some earthy maltiness on the backend. TASTE: Like someone is firing and automatic hops assault rifle in my mouth. Nice intense burst of flavor, malty and sweet at the same time, tropical fruits up front with the likes of mango, pineapple and some freshly cut grapefruit sprinkled with sugar in the raw. Nice amount of heat on the backend from the high ABV. MOUTHFEEL: Feels like a classic west coast ipa with nice medium body and ton of dancing bubble carbonation. Slightly creamy and oily with a great coating of the mouth that gets sucked up in an instant with that quick snappy dry finish. OVERALL: I still find that my perfect balance for an ipa is in the 10% ABV 100 IBU range. This delivers for me in every possible way. From the look of the beer to the nose to the taste I enjoyed every drop. I am torn wishing it was a year round release and appreciating that it's not so I can look forward to it coming out. I think I could comfortably put this in my top 10 dipa's. RATING: 4.5/5 Zombie Heads! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasted from a 12oz. bottle. It poured a clear amber with lively carbonation and a foamy white head. Aroma of hops and citrus with a hint of mango. Taste of hops, malt, and fruity alcohol.

Bottle, 2014 release. Earthy, citrus hop aroma. Pours golden colored with one finger of off-white head and no lacing. Nice citrus hoppy flavors to start. Finishes quite dry with good citrus as well as a hint of earthiness. Very good ipa.

The first sip is an absolute hop-bomb. The difference with this beer as opposed to other 100+ IBUs is that after a few sips and your palette gets used to the hoppiness, it's quite enjoyable. I picked up the earthy and some floral notes. For me, a good summer beer to quench the thirst. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pale orange color, minimal head. Huge aromas. Just a bit of malt sweetness at the start and then your palate gets bitch slapped by huge amounts of resinous floral and pine hops. Finish is somewhat dry with a hint of alcohol burn at the back of the throat. This one is a monster.

Bottle. Brown sugar, citrus hop, and spices in the aroma, full body, nice bitter bite. Taste is a little sweet initially with a dry, earthy bitter finish. Very nice DIPA that has a lot of hop character and still the full body of a double.
