COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous Ďnew-schoolí and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit Ė all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Bottle from Ledgers in Berkeley, CA. This is the best Sierra Nevada beer Iíve ever had. Usually the piney hops are overpowering followed up by just a bunch of bitter. This beer was hoppy on the front end, but followed up by malty goodness. Nice balance to this brew

Bottle. Brown sugar, citrus hop, and spices in the aroma, full body, nice bitter bite. Taste is a little sweet initially with a dry, earthy bitter finish. Very nice DIPA that has a lot of hop character and still the full body of a double.

Great beer really showcases the hops. Doesn't really taste like 100 ibu beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours out copper red with a small tan head up top. Pine and alcohol on the nose, but the flavor is all sweet malt and herbal hops. Aftertaste is metallic with lingering medicinal notes and a little bit of citrus finally rearing its head. Traditional DIPA moutheel, thicky and syrupy with very apparent alcohol heat. Iím quite disappointed by this, probably the worst Sierra Nevada brew Iíve tried yet.

Orange pour with a massive head. Citrus and piney hops on the nose. That is a flavor explosion in the mouth....sweet caramel that morphs into a welcomed bitterness as it slides into the back of your throat.

Pours burnt orange with a huge three finger head. Aroma is malts and piney hops; a touch of alcohol. Taste is fairly malty with a moderate hop bitterness throughout. Definitely some alcohol in there as well. Good mouth feel but the carbonation seems to be lacking a bit. Overall a very enjoyable beer if you donít mind the alcohol taste, which I donít.

Bottle. A- Piney, hoppy, caramel, malty, spruce. A- Orange copper color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Piney, bitter, caramel, floral. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Had hoped the citra hops would shine through more, but the citrus notes were very weak. Very bitter and reserved only for hop heads.

Sierra Nevada made this. It has an old-timey bloke on the label whose head looks like a hop. Fitting if you ask me. You'd have to be metaphorically similar to this fellow to fully admire this beer methinks. Have another sip...right tasty, innit? Enjoyed fireside at Das Irische Biergarten in Cheyenne, WY. 12oz pour, tulip glass. 39deg bottle temp, 45deg serving temp, 68deg ambient temp. Social Distortion channel on Pandora.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 10.4% and the IBUs at 100 in the description. It also has the date or year it was brewed in. (2013).Appearance: The body has a hazy medium amber color with a thick and creamy off white head. The head has very good retention and makes lots of sticky lacing on the glass. Smell: It?s aroma is loaded with tons citrusy and tropical fruity notes. They jump right out of the bottle and fill the nose when poured into the glass. Taste / Palate: Up front it starts with a quick bit of malt sweetness mixing in with tropical fruity notes and then this blends into big citrusy flavor notes. Lemony, zesty, and orange peel/pith like hop notes and bitterness take over and run long into the finish. This is a full bodied beer is a big full feel. The 10.4 % ABV is smooth and just adds a slight reminder that this is a nice slow sipper.

Bottle (12 oz). 2014 vintage. Clear golden/orange with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is of malt, alcohol, piney hops, wood, tropical fruits and floral/perfumy hops. Taste is moderately sweet with a good amount of malt/caramel, resinous presence, grapefruits, floral notes, moderate bitternesss and alcohol. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. Clean. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Dry sticky finish. Warming. Good balance for a really hoppy and high abv beer, but itís too much... too much alcohol, too much malt, too sticky. Itís not easy to drink and itís almost an American Barley Wine. A Double IPA should be drinkable, this one isnít.
