COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

12oz bottle. Pours a golden orange color with a frothy white head. Lots of carbonation bubbles. Aroma is of hops, pine, citrus, and caramel. Taste is big on the bitter, resiny hops. Long lingering hop bite. Sharp alcohol bite underneath the strong hop character. Lots of citrus, pine, and caramel. The malt character is very light underneath the huge hop taste. Lots of grapewfruit comes out after a few sips. It’s hoppy, and it is good.

Tried out of Bottle. Aroma was OK. Not exciting. Mouth feel was a little Heavy. I was hoping for a clean crisp beer. Taste was a bit malty but for a 10.4 I can’t complain. Hops seem to get lost. I would buy it again...mostly because I like the label.

on draft and it poured a golden orange almost copper color. minimal carbonation actually a soft carbonation. white head doesnt last long. solid aroma of hops that are mostly floral with citrus undertones. the one thing i like about this beer is that it was very smooth. had a decent bitterness on the tongue but didnt last long..almost a dry flavor. the flavor itself was very good and smooth. will have this one again.

The aroma is just fantastic and fresh. The flavors are great, extremely hoppy without being overbearing. Not oily at all. Bitter finish but not woody or overly piney. Best DIPA I have had to date and this is coming after visiting Three Floyds and having several of theirs.

Pours a hazy dark orange/copper with two fingers of white head and decent lacing. Pine and grapefruit aroma with some citrus and marmalade. Big grapefruit hop flavor with pine needle bitterness and resiny taste up front on palate. In the middle of the mouth you get some of the marmalade and malt sweetness followed by more grapefruit and citrus. Finishes dry with a lingering bitterness and warmth from the 10% ABV. Mouthfeel is just shy of being sticky with a moderate/full body and medium/high carbonation. A very well crafted DIPA that has lots of hop flavor and hardly any alcohol noticeable. Enjoyable but a sipper for sure.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a tulip. Bottled on March 19, 2013 per Julian date code printed on bottle. Appearance: Pours a clear medium gold with a 1-2 finger fluffy eggshell white head which dissipates slowly, leaving a ring around the edges and a pool of bubbles in the middle. Nice head retention and lacing. Smell: Excellent blend of hoppy goodness that features aromas of sweet citrus, grapefruit, pineapple, bready malt, a hint of pine and a touch of alcohol. Taste: Pine, floral hops and bitter citrus up front followed by bready malt and grassy hops in the middle before ending with a huge blast of bitter, resinous hops at the finish. Aftertaste is extremely bitter and long-lasting. The IBUs really come through while the alcohol is well masked. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Very smooth and the hop oils really coat the mouth. Drinkability: Very good drinkability. This doesn’t seem like a beer with 10.5% ABV. Overall: Excellent beer overall. This is a hophead’s dream. At 100 IBU, this one is very bitter - and I like it that way. If you like hoppy beers, this is a must try.

Definitely nails the style, but for me I don’t see a huge difference in hop flavor between this and SNs torpedo. It masks the extra alcohol beautifully and there is a bit more going on, but the bitterness makes it hard to discern the subtle taste the whole cone hops lend to the ale. resin, spruce, citrus,

On tap 6 oz. sampler at The Bistro in Old Line Wine in Beltsville, MD. Clear, copper-orange with a creamy off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of citrus, pine and caramel. Taste of citrus, caramel, earthy pine and light fruit. Medium body and high/medium carbonization. Nothing complex here, just good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear amber with a small white head. Subtle aroma of grapefruit and pine with a touch of dankness. At this point I am thinking this is going to be good. But the taste is heavily dank with flowers and earthiness. Lots of grapfruit rind and pineapple. Too much of the things I don't like. This is probably great for someone who likes this style of ipa. I am more of a bitter pine with a lighter body. Too sweet and dank for me. Very complex though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Complex. Balanced. Hops seems tamped down, muted. Doesn’t have the bite I’m looking for.
