4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pouring at session one of EBF in Boston. Pours a clear gold with a medium white head. Big pine and citrus aromas, sweet and sappy. Earthy hops. Long and smooth with a long sweet candied grapefruit finish. This is what I wish all of Sierra Nevadas hoppy beers were like, because this was fantastic. Maybe not quite at PTY levels, but for being poured at a fest where PTY was poured, this held it’s own quite handily. I was impressed.

Pours lightly hazy and deep golden with little, lacing and off-white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus fruits, pine and peachy notes. Sweet flavor with oily texture that ends up more dry and solid bitter. Taste of hops, pine, alcohol and caramel. Medium bodied.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 2013 vintage. Pours dark golden with a finger thick creamy head. Aroma is tropical hops with mango, orange, lychee and bitter pine, as well as a nice malty caramel. Full creamy body with soft carbonation. Flavour is bitter with orange peel and grapefruit, as well as some malt and kandi, and a long bitter finish. First and foremost this beer is all about the abundance of bitterness packed into the small bottle, yet the sublime sweet balance of tropical hops and grainy malts raises it above to the next level.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice golden orange color with a white head that leaves lacing. Passion fruit, mango, grape, pine, some pear on the nose. Well balanced by a sweet caramel maltiness. Taste is similar to aroma with an intense long bitterness and good balancing malt character. Mouthfeel is sweet almost sticky with soft carbonation. Excellent.

Fantastica imperial ipa. Sierra Nevada sforna sempre buoni prodotti, e questo conferma la possibilità dei luppoli americani di essere risolutivi anche su prodotti a grado elevato. La luppolatura si apre in molti anche gusti più complessi, anche un leggero fruttato. Veramente valida!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Orange thick body with a finger of beige creamy head. The aroma is of citrus, caramel, pine, marmelade grape fruit, passion fruit, everything. Pretty much the same is the taste, everything in the right balance. At last it leaves a nice oily bitter taste. The exceptional thing here is that you can never tell any hint of the 10.4% alcohol! Bravo Sierra Nevada!

After letting the bottle warm up slightly I cracked the top and I could immediately smell the hops. I started pouring and the smell got stronger and more complex until I couldn’t take it any more and buried my nose into the glass and took a big whiff. Oh my god, heavenly, intense floral, citrusy, resin and a background of cedar. The beer pours very nicely with a beautiful creamy head that lasts for ages and looks as comfortable as an ample bosom. With the contrast against the intense dark amber, the delicate lace left behind on the sides of the glass serves as a reminder of the wonderful ale that used to be there. The flavours are amazing, and the hop profile… out of this world! Its dry, sticky, spicy and fruity, almost like drinking a Christmas fruitcake, leaving that lovely hop resin coating your mouth. The body is creamy and smooth with the alcohol content being very well masked, except for a subtle ‘warming spirit glow’ at the very end which is quite pleasant. The after taste is quite remarkable. Apart from the already mentioned ‘warming spirit glow’ it also leaves spicy, dry and piney notes on the tongue which encourage you to have the next sip.

Slightly hazy orange color with a thin, persistent head. Aroma is sweet floral, flavor adds some pine resin with a delightful bitter sweet aftertaste. Really good, probably my favorite Sierra Nevada brew.
