COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

If you are a "hop-head" this beer is for you! Even if you aren’t, this beer deserves a try. Very nice aroma, in the correct glass (I had a goblet that trapped the essence very well). Crisp flavor with a great bitter hoppy bite at the end. This is a beer to be enjoyed not to be drunk! As a resident of Delaware and a devotee of Dogfish Head, I’d put this beer up against anything Sam and the gang have put out there! Easily one of the best IPAs I’ve ever tasted. Well Done.

Bottle. Pours a semi-clear copper orange color with a foamy white head. Aroma is woody, syrup, hops and outdoors, leaves. Flavor is thick hops and spice, sweet notes and a thick tingle on the palate. Finish also has a cough syrup like quality to it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is truly a kind brew! It has a hoppy taste, in keeping with the Sierra tradition. It has a citrusy feel to it with a little horsey kick to it. This not a chug a lug beer. This is one you sit down and savor. It comes in a four pack so share it with your bro and listen to some Mercyful Fate to it. It’s really cool! Go check it out friend!!!

pours clear golden with a minimal white head, some retention and lacing. floral, citrusy, piney, spicy, woodsy. smooth caramel, grainy toastiness. boozy, some sweetness. moderate carbonation, medium to full body, medium long citrusy-piney finish, complex hop profile, semi-sweet backbone malt bill, barleywine-like. heavy stuff but i liked it.

12oz bottle with a picture of me after I drank a couple of these (my entire head managed to turn itself into a hop bud). Poured clear orange-ish with a white head that did not stick around long. Very big on hop flavors and bitterness as expected but well balanced with plenty of sweetness and very little alcohol taste despite the huge abv. Well done and so I am I now.

Clear burnt orange with white head. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is citrus and pine. Very bitter finish. No dogfish head 90 minute, but still nice.

One of the best IPAs I’ve ever had, maybe the best. Don’t be discouraged by the 100 IBU rating, in case you would be. The hops used here are so tasty, it’s not like you just get a mouthful of bitterness from overdoing it. The chosen hops are perfectly fragrant and flavorful. Well done Sierra Nevada. Best enjoyed in their IPA glass of course!

I was beginning to become concerned that Georgia wasn’t going to get any Hoptimum this year. Better late than never. While this beer isn’t quite up to the level of the Plinys and Hopslams of the World, it is damn good, cheap, and easy to find. Pours light gold and clear with a white head. Smells of citrus and booze. The hop character and sweet finish isn’t quite to the level of the top tier IIPA’s, but it is fantastic nonetheless. Will continue to buy every year. 12 oz bottle poured into a perfect pint glass shows typical copper color with a thin white head. Nose of resiny pine hops with some sweetness. All pine hops upfront, a bit harsh at first, then mellows into some floral notes. Thick on the tongue. Bitter finish hangs around for a bit. Nothing spectacular, but true to style.

Very straight hoppy with lots of sweetness. Very boozy. I can enjoy a couple of sips but not much more.

Bottle. Poured amber with thick white head. I enjoy imperial IPAs, but this one did not suit my taste. Aroma and taste were dominated by pine and the bitterness provide was unpleasant and bitey. A bit of a chore to make it all the way through this beer.
