lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA May 14, 2007 pours a clear orange copper with a nice one finger fluffy off white head. aroma is malt, hops, and a little orange and caramel. has a medium body with descent lacing and carbonation. flavor is hops and a little malt with some pine and orange peel. has a nice dry hop aftertaste and a little bite like pepper at the end. light on the aroma but not too bad on the taste not bad of an ipa just expected more. also has a little bit of sediment and some grain flavor and aroma as it warms. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA May 13, 2007 Sierra Nevada India Pale Ale
12 oz bottle
Moderate pour in a tulip glass
Recent brewing (2007), sipped 05/07
Poured a clear amber copper with a large fluffy off-white mostly lasting head with good lacing.
Smelt of strong caramel and moderate floral hops.
Taste was upfront strong sweet caramel and oranges and biter floral orange blossoms hops followed by a strong bitter pine resin and light caramel on a long bitter green finish.
Palate was medium bodied, creamy, lively carbonated and strongly astringent.
Overall, an IPA that starts tame and finishes with a punch. Some nice soft sweet orange fruit touches. Seemed a bit tame for an American IPA, but it is done in the subtler English tradition. Also seems like the regular Pale Ale has a bit more bite, but I will have to try them side by side to confirm. georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA May 12, 2007 From the first sip this beer is full of a bitter hoppiness. It is one of the hoppier regular IPA’s. The alcohol content is well masked behind the bite of the beer. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 12, 2007 Sampled at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits IPA Nite in St Paul, MN. Pours an orange/caramel color brew with a thick white head. Sticky lacing. Aroma has scents of barley malt, mint, earthy hops, and some sourdough bread. Taste is slightly sweet with a hint of cotton candy and yeast. Finish is somewhat flat and missing the hope bite I am used to in IPAs. radagast83 (1273), Fairfax, Virginia, USA May 11, 2007 Bottle. Dark golden color, with a thick head. Aroma is hoppy, with pines, and spices. Flavor is that of pines, toffee, and hops. From what I expected it was a little less hoppy since many of their other ales are pretty hoppy for the variety they’re in. Solid though. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England May 11, 2007 Bottle. Golden brown with a medium head. Aromas are hoppy and bitter, green pine with spices. Toffee malt in the background. Flavours are chewy toffee malts wih spicy, prickly pine. Quite green and resinous. Bitter on the finish. Pretty good. Padron4KM (400), Chandler, Arizona, USA May 11, 2007 12 oz bottle, 2007 version.
Dark golden with a thick, creamy, lasting, tan head.
Aroma is light caramel with a dusting of hops
Flavor starts slightly sweet and finishes with a light piney bitterness.
It’s not bad, I was just expecting more.
joohefner (380), Isla Vista, California, USA May 9, 2007 a toasted tan with medium creamy head. light floral earthy aroma. fairly light on the hops and bitter for an ipa. some citrus and floral taste. sweet hay with light toffee and bitter. on overall mellow IPA good for people who don’t like very strong hops in their IPA, probably not one of Sierra Nevada’s best
