Nice spicy hop aroma with light caramel. Well balanced hop flavor profile with bitter bite that lingers. A nice ESB/English IPA style for something different from SN’s excellent line up. Not as good as SNPA or SNCA, but worth a try. bradmccarroll (57), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 14, 2007 From a bottle. Pours a clear, medium gold color. Aroma is weak with hints of hops and spices. Flavor is strong in hops with some bitterness coming through at the end. Heavy body and oily texture. Overall I find it quite enjoyable and with 6.9% abv pretty fun to boot. joebagnell (6), New Jersey, USA does not count | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 13, 2007 Not what i expected when i picked up a sixer, but a really nice beer. Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale is one of my favorites, and I was expecting the ipa to be very hoppy. Instead it is more similar, in my opinion, to a British IPA, not overly bitter, with a nice balance between malt and hops. As much as I love "extreme" beer and most highly hopped american ipas it is nice to enjoy a beer that is truly representative of the style and does not rely on a gimmick or absurdly high hop levels. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 13, 2007 2007 bottle. Dark golden color with a medium head. Aroma is slight hops and sweetness though not very strong. Flavor is quite bland. Not much there except a hoppy aftertaste. Bummer. The regular SNPA is way better than this. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 12, 2007 Pours a lighter amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of some floral hops, and some biscuity malts. Not much carbonation and is a little too sweet for my likeing with an IPA. Not my favorite Sierra Nevada brew. kimcgolf (828), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 12, 2007 I really enjoyed this one. Poured from the bottle to a golden orange color, with medium off-white head that lingered long and left good lacing. Aroma was very citrusy (grapefruit and lemons) hops, and these came through even more in the flavor. Mouthfeel was very tangy, and as the beer warmed, the alcohol made itself much more known in both the aroma and flavor. Finish was very dry and bitter, just as I want in an IPA.
God job SN. Darkover (1311), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 10, 2007 Tangy, orange/tangerine zest, yeasty, baby aspirin aroma. Light cinnamon read oak brown, good label. Doughy, medium-heavy hopping, mildly tart, not very sweet. A nice west coast/UK hop blend. Finishes out bitter and biscuity. Medium-heavy body. Fruity vapors on the intake from the glass.
