gearbike (413), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA Apr 2, 2006 Light golden color from the bottle. Solid hoppy basic IPA. Dry a bit of fall flavor in burnt leave type of way. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Apr 2, 2006 Dark golden pour; clear with a little carbonation. Fluffy frothy head that descends gradually. Aroma is faint - catching most hops (I’m a bit stopped up so the aroma is probably stronger than what I’m getting). Taste is maltier than what I would expect from an IPA from Sierra Nevada, there is a bit of musty carmel aspect to the malt. The hops are still the predominant aspect of the taste - grassiness and grapefuit flavors dominate. Very sharp crisp hoppy finish that stays around in an enjoyable way. Enjoyable beer from a consisantly good brewery. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA Apr 2, 2006 From bottle. Pours a golden orange with think white head. Not much happening in the nose. Same with the flavor. Where is it? Huge bitter aftertaste lets you know you just drank something. Big disappointment from SN. seal614 (9), Philly, USA does not count Apr 2, 2006 decent IPA, flavor is not very pronounced, less hoppy than I expected for an IPA. mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Apr 1, 2006 Where’s the flavor? Surprisingly little hoppiness. Malty, but dry. Good bitterness, but not much of that citrus. Slightly woody. Earthy moss like an english IPA. Not what I expect from Sierra Nevada in any way. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 31, 2006 2006 bottle. Poured a mostly clear medium golden with a tall cap of rocky off-white head. Nose was oddly vegetal (wet, leafy hops?)... mild citrus, caramel, and earthy notes eventually wafted through. Flavor lost the veggies, and was chock fulla hops (grapefruit, orange zest, and some herbal notes)... caramel malt balance provided decent balance. Medium-bodied and sticky on the palate...with a consistent bitterness all the way through. Not much better than "OK". thebeertourist (2751), Oslo, Norway Mar 31, 2006 Bottle. Clear copper colour with a medium white head. Caramel and citrus aroma. Initially sweet caramel, but quickly hop bitterness takes over and becomes the dominant flavour. Dry finish. Full-bodied. It did not quite meet my high expectations. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Mar 29, 2006 Poured a clear copper color with a large off-white head. Light fruitiness in the aroma. Decent amount of hops both citrus and earthy. Caramel malt notes underneath. Malty flavor of caramel with some sweetness. Hop bitterness starts quickly and lasts for a long time. I like th emalt balance of the pale ale much better.
