Rich, hazy mustard yellow with a lively head. Piquant aromatic medley of German wheat, German yeast, and zesty phenols with clove more prominent though banana playing lightly as well. Richly complex and enjoyable bouquet with touches of spiciness. If there is any drawback, perhaps it is a bit under-bodied, however the flavors of wheat, German yeast, and spicy phenols are again pleasant and conjure up the German pub experience. An outstanding German hefe and definitely a top-notch American example.

12oz. Pours with a big fluffy white head. A nice hazy and opaque yellow color, lots of yeast present, of course. Aroma is strongly yeasty with some banana ester and nuttiness. Creamy, yeasty flavor - banana esters abound, and it’s got a pleasant level of spiciness throughout. A smooth palate with a clean, semi-dry finish. Evidently I really liked this beer, because I downed the 12 ounces in about as many minutes. It’s wonderful for the ridiculous hot weather we’ve been having here lately. A competing hefe with the lovely Live Oak Hefeweizen, I’d say.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 chimaybier (109) - Redding, California, USA - JUN 19, 2009
Six pack purchased from Liquor Barn in Redding, California. I was hoping and praying to GOD that this would not be another interpretation of a Hefe with too much hops. From what I read of the earlier reports before this beer was released, I had good hopes. Bouquet: Banana / clove esters. Palate: a bit spicy & dryish, but not overly so. Definite wheat graininess. Finish: great balance of yeasty spiciness & citrus. I’ll buy this again for sure!
