COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kellerweis is one of the only American Hefeweizens made using the traditional Bavarian style of open fermentation. This difficult and labor-intensive technique adds uncommon depth and flavor complexity. Our hazy-golden hefeweizen is deeply flavorful, refreshing and perfect for a sunny day. To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest.

Everything in this beer is suitably done. It is just a plain but class beer. Often a beer with this sweet banna taste will have an overwhelming aroma but no Kellerwies. It is very clean and smooth.

12oz bottle. Itís good for an American weissbier, but not even close to the Germans. Compare back to back with a Schneider, Hacker, Erdinger or Paulaner.

Really good! Wheat and pink grapefruit aroma, and sour grapefruit taste. Terrific summer beer. True to style in terms of the subtle wheat taste and well-rounded flavor. Clean finish. Cloudy with a thick white head.

12 oz bottle: Aroma is bubble gum, orange, slight yeast, and some coriander. Appearance is a cloudy almost apple cider like look to it but a bit lighter and more yellow. Taste is bubble gum, coriander, light citrus and yeast. Palate is carbonated with a slight spicy aftertaste. Overall, he a pretty decent Hefe that not overly hoppy like Sierras Porter or Stout. Cheers!

Nice hazy light pumpkin orange. White head that lasts. Smells of fruit, specifically bananas. Nice light wheat smell. Tastes of fruits and spicy bananas. A little to sweet.

12 oz. bottle pours a rich, melted-buttery yellow, opaque with a creamy white head that leaves sparse, sticky lacing as it melts. Initial aroma is of stinky bellybutton lint (wtf IS that???) that warms up to a wheaty, spicy (corriander? cloves?) aroma. Hearty body with a malt and wheat front palate, a yeasty sort of middle and a finish of that spice again with just a touch of lemon. Nice hefe with good body and expanded palate that I didnít expect. More complex but still an easy drink. Personally, Iíd dig this with spaghetti with sausage-marinara sauce and a huge chunk of really garlicky garlic bread.

Clear gold color with a medium head. Nice aroma of just over-ripened bananas. Same strong banana flavor, lots of wheat. The cloves donít come out much. Almost lemony at the finish. Really solid.

Bottled, courtesy Narnad. Moderately hazy yellow-orange with a small, bright white head thatís mostly diminishing. Clove and banana nose with underlying tangy wheat and a touch of lemon. Mildly yeasty/doughy flavor, wheat tanginess rather high with mild-to-moderate sour lemon/peach fruit highlights. Finish is dry and tangy. Solid, but I wasnít wowed.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2015 Have been waiting for this for a month and had to come all the way out to New Jersey for a bottle. Big estery nose on cap open, heavy banana and wheat, lighter cloves. Lemon-citrus and yeast. Pale yellow with a large, creamy white head that clings and laces well. Body is thin and mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, seemingly no carbonation despite the large head. Watery banana and lemon, but theyíre right, there is some complexity here, with a touch of spice and bitter pretzel. Pale malt and strengthening clove. The complexity is not quite as advertised, but this is sweet and ridiculously repeatable - easy to down a pitcher or two every night. [2009.08.19: 3.3]

Iíve had about three cases of this over the years and still enjoy it. I want to like it more than I do; I recognize the German yeast strain (and props for using it!), I recognize the house character, and I like the slightly tart and grainy character. But the yeast puts out a bit too much sulfur for me as used, and the bubblegum-leaning phenols donít mesh with the frequent slime. [2015.05.03: 3.3]

A cloudy pour that reminds us of this beer being unfiltered. There is a bit of head on this one, about one finger. On the aroma, there is a fair amount of bananbread and cloves. Definitely a hefeweizen. On the initial flavor all of these aromas come through, but the body is also a bit fuller which whirls these flavors around for a bit of complexity. Though the fruit-like flavors from a typical hefeweizen are present they are a bit more muted and donít jump out quite as much as in a typical wheat beer. Overall, I would say this is a great beer for the summer but in general a good wheat beer if you donít want something that is too light (definitely no lemon to be served with this one).
