Kellerweis is one of the only American Hefeweizens made using the traditional Bavarian style of open fermentation. This difficult and labor-intensive technique adds uncommon depth and flavor complexity. Our hazy-golden hefeweizen is deeply flavorful, refreshing and perfect for a sunny day. To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest.

Bottle. Pours a very hazy apricot amber with just a hint of a head. Aromas are a nice mix of pears, soap, cloves, bananas, and bubble gum. Pretty nice mix on the nose. Flavor is pretty solid, too... with all of the above showing up at some point in the program, with the addition of some citrus (oranges would be my best descriptor) midway through act one.

12 oz. bottle served in tumbler- poured a moderately hazy dark yellow, medium carbonation with clusters of bubbles on the side of the glass, foamy and inviting head laced nicely and tried to steal my wife! Aroma of bananas by the boat, citrus by the bushel, and clove by... insert your favorite bunch here. Hits the mouth with a high-weak body, malt is mostly wheat from the taste- but they didn’t use the grade "B" stuff, middle is where the cloves come out, a breadlike quality on the backend, finish is slightly sweet from the banana sensation, but very enjoyable. Hard to believe that an American brewer (aside from Sprecher’s & Old Hat) got a classic German down pat- and if you don’t like this brew, you’re STOOPID!!!

Dark cloudy gold, thin white head. tangy pineapple, banana and clove aroma, but its kinda faint. Very, uh, fluffy? soft? Nive palate, regardless how you phrase it. Lots of pineapple and banana and bubble guma and clove in the flavor, with just a hhint of hoppy bitterness. Really nice session wheat beer. Thanks to nqualls for the trade!

Bottle. Pours a large, frothy white head that becomes meringue-like towards the end. Clear, honey golden body with abundant C02 bubbles. Body becomes cloudy with yeast as the bottom of the bottle is poured. Some chunky yeast particulate. Aroma is a nice mix of banana and clove with a little citrus, a touch of vanilla and a fair dose of bready yeast. Banana comes through bigger in the flavor with the spices pulling up a supporting role. Rich, chewy wheat malt and a little citrus tang. Medium bodied with average, refreshing carbonation. Smooth with a clean finish. Overall a really tasty Hefeweizen and one I could consume on a nearly daily basis. Thanks to EithCubes for delivering the bottle!

Bottle. Gold / yellow pour with white head. Banana sugar sweetness, yeast and pleasant spices are in the aroma. Flavor is the same, light sweet bread, butter, spices and yeast. Just a pleasant beer overall.

Recent bottle from Premiere Gourmet. Pours a beige body, with large but consistently fading head that whafts bannana and some other spiciness. Leaves the odd lace dot. Medium mouthfeel, with that unfiltered taste, and good carbonation, easy drinking hefe. Not the most outstanding I have had, but certainly very drinkable.

Hazy dark gold color with a lingering white head. Big spicy peppercorn aromas with grainy malts. Medium body with a chewy mouthfeel. Lightly tart wheat flavor with spicy clove and black pepper. Nice.

In short: A extra-full-bodied nourishing Hefeweizen. Like a condensed traditional hefeweizen. Very good even if a bit heavy for the style.
How: Bottle 12oz (many). Consumed fresh soon after the beer release.
The look: Opaque dark yellow body topped by a medium white head
In long: Typical but unusually intense Hefeweizen nose with a truckload of bananas and fresh cereals. Body is as full as it gets for the style, this is like chewing hay. Simple but strong taste of young (greenish) bananas and compressed hay/straws. Very yeasty. No such things as spicy notes (coriander or others) and orange peels. Good amount of grassy hops. I drank my six-pack over the course of many days because I found it a little too sweet for the style. Very nourishing but not really refreshing. It loses a few points because of that but it remains a superior example of the style, this really is a Killerweis.
