Commercial Description:
Kellerweis is one of the only American Hefeweizens made using the traditional Bavarian style of open fermentation. This difficult and labor-intensive technique adds uncommon depth and flavor complexity. Our hazy-golden hefeweizen is deeply flavorful, refreshing and perfect for a sunny day. To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest.

bottle 12oz. - Poured piss yellow with thin white head. Aroma - some skunk and wheat, hope it tastes better!! Flavor - Sour lemony and wheat taste. Better than last Hefe I had but thats not saying much. Also tasted some mild banana flavor...pretty good! Palate - thin mouthfeel and has good carbonation. Finish is dry with alot of spice in aftertaste. Overall - 2nd Hefe in a row and this is far better than first, still not my favorite style but drinkable.

From a twelve ounce bottle purchased in Cincinnati, Ohio - This hazey hued hefe pours a deep golden brew with a slight, tight, white head of foam and s banana+clove aroma. Tastewise, it’s good, but not as body strong as the German hefeweizens!

Pours hazy yellow with thick white head and excellent lacing. Yeast dominates the aroma with some dampness and a hint of cleaning fluid. Lots of bright cirtus and flowers in the body. Light banana in the finish. Solid hefeweizen that goes down easier (and faster!) than most.

Pours hazy amber golden with a small and quickly disappearing chalk-white head. Aroma has a heavy sweetness of bananas foster and clove. A noticeable bitter note as well. The flavors is a nice spicy hefe with the obvious clove, but also some ginger and slight hint of lemon. A balancing bitterness to it that is pretty floral. There is a lot of good body to this beer. Very enjoyable.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours a hazy golden color with a white head. The taste is nicely balanced by clove and banana. Taste is really good except a little sour in the aftertaste. Good beer.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a wheat glass. The color is a hazy orange with a slight yellowish hue. about two fingers of white foamy head and some nice lacing. The smell is slightly fruity with a hint of bananas and some slight citrus flavors. The taste is sweet with some wheat flavor mixed with some clove and citrus flavors. There is a bit of tangy flavor in the background that is ever so slight but give this beer a great fruit flavor that remains for a bit. The feel of this beer is pretty light and goes down easy. Is one of the better beers I’ve had in the lower ABV range. This may be my new session beer.

While Kellerweis isn’t the best hefeweizen in the world, it’s much, much better than your average bland American pale wheat nonsense and actually comparable to German greats, like the Ayinger and Weihenstephaner, in my opinion. The beer pours cloudy and golden banana in color. The nose has a lot of good banana flavor. It could probably use a bit more of that rich, spicy wheat flavor of the best German versions, but it’s still quite good. I’ve been told that SN got the yeast strain from a small German brewery, and it certainly has the notes of an authentic German hefe yeast. The flavor is a tad sweet, but it dries out nicely in the finish. I was nervous about this beer when it was announced, but SN has put out what is probably the best widely available American wheat beer.

Yellow with a low but dense head. Bubblegum aroma with further notes of orange. The flavour is pretty bavarian in style, banana notes and a bit of koriander too. Nice.
