COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhal’s aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as it’s nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

Pours a good black with a light beige rim that leaves some lacing. Nose is of bourbon, light licorice and vanilla. Taste is of chocolate, alcohol, slight dark fruits and pretty bitter. Moderately sweet. Body is full, carbonation moderate and the alcohol is a bit hot. Overall a pretty good but not exceptionnal american imperial stout. Way too boozy, though.

pours unclear very dark brown, orange-mahogany tint, with a reviving light beige cap, nice lacing. bourbony roasted maltiness, ice red wine, minty yet soft resin, coconut. light to low carbonation, medium-full body - oily; warming and spicy-bourbony finish. very good. as good as tawny version - and still far - in a good way - from fresh (harsh) narwhal.

Have had on tap at bier thirty and from 750ml bottle a few times. Pours out black topped with a brown head. Nose is roast malts chocolate bourbon barrel notes vanilla cocoa pit fruit and some sweetness. Taste is more heavy roast malts chocolate barrel notes vanilla bourbon and a nice end.

Bottle shared at The Cad’s 10 year get together. Huge thanks to Leighton. 29/03/2015. Aroma is smooth bonbon, booze, vanilla, light roast, dark choc. Oily black coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head. Flavour is composed of milky roast, coco powder, toasted coconut, nutty, coco, smooth Bourbon. Very rich and layer. Well put together. C&C 750 mL bottle from Beer Run. Huge thanks to OldGrowth whose forum thread made me realize I was at 99 Sierra Nevada ratings and had this gem sitting in the cellar, a perfect choice for #100! Near black, medium dark brown head, decent retention. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon, oak, earth. The taste is dark fruits, roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, oak, dark chocolate. Medium-full bodied, low carbonation, fairly hot. Solid beer, yay for 100 Sierra Nevada ratings! And oh shit, 10.5K to boot!

2014 bottle. Like the original but some age and barrel have done this one right. Vanilla, barrel, lovely chocolate, hints of marshmellow, hints of dark ripe fruits, coffee. Real nice!
