Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhal’s aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as it’s nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

Dark mahogany pour with a mocha head that left a decent amount of lacing inside of the glass. Espresso, vanilla bean, oak, bourbon, and brownie. The alcohol is a bit aggressive and overpowering. Although the individual components sound delicious and decadent, they don’t elevate one another. Good but not great.

draft sampler times 2...poured a dark brown to black with oily finish on the glass. very minimal head. this beer was very smooth for all that it offered. you get roasted malts, and coffee on the nose along with the bourbon. I was just taken aback to how smooth the flavor was with the alcohol which was hidden nicely...overall this beer was nothing short of amazing..with all that was going on and the warmer it got the better it got. I know the price for a bomber and passed but now on draft it was all that I hoped it would be.

Smells like bourbon with a bit of vanilla. Taste has hints of raisin, fig, dark chocolate, vanilla caramel, and has a roastyness to it. Not to much bourbon flavor, I’m a bit disappointed by that, but it’s still an awesome beer.

750ml bottle shared at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki, from trade with RobertDale. Black color with beige brown head. Malty aroma, roasted, dark dried fruits, chocolate, wood, vanilla, light alcohol. Sweet and light bitter taste, malty again, chocolate and very fruity (dark dried raisins and plums), wood vanilla, warming alcohol, caramel at the end. Almost full silky body with soft carbonation. Thank you Bob!

22oz bottle shared at The Cad’s 10yr anniversary celebrations at CBC Clerkenwell, London. It pours a dark brown color with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet bourbon notes of vanilla, wood, leather, with espresso, dark chocolate, caramel. Taste is again mostly sweet with big bourbon notes, finishes drier and ashy, lightly boozy. Medium to full bodied with good carbonation. Overall, good but was expecting a bit more
