COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhalís aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as itís nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

Bottle share at the Cadís tasting at CBC Clerkenwell. Not sure who brought this, but thanks! Black, small foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet and minty, tequila, a little coconut. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is tangy up front, molasses, spearmint, boozey, finishes dry. Not really getting a lot of the barrel, and the base beer is still going strong. I wasnít a huge fan of the base beer, but this feels like an improvement.

Bottle at Toms 10 yr anniversary. Black beer lasting tan head. Toast aroma. Hot in mouth. Some soy sauce some roast. Just not for me.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Pours black with a tall, dense, fluffy brown head. Aroma is boozy with soft coconut, vanilla, roasted malt, dark chocolate and burnt caramel. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, molasses, burnt caramel, light coconut and booze. Body is medium with a strong, dense, bubbly carbonation. Sticky with a light boozy warmth. Ends with more roasted malt, chocolate, lots of vanilla, molasses, burnt caramel and booze.

Bottle (75cl): shared by Benzai: Served in a Chouffe glass: Small beige head. Deep dark brown with blackish tints colored beer. Aromas of older wood, dusty vanilla, roast, earthy tones, dark chocolate, light toffee, lighter bay leaf roast, alcohol... Flavours of bitters, spice, alcohol, mocha, marzipan, malts, caramel, light vanilla, light wod, some manure, chocolate and rye wrapped in a toasty bow... Aftertaste is bitter, alcohol, malty and light woody vanilla tones. Low carbo, spicy mouthfeel, close to full bodied... Loce the regular beer but the barrel aging hasnít added anything nice instead of the spicy alcohol tones with a light woody vanilla hint... Expected more of this!

Bottle @ home shared with Countbeer. Very dark brown to black color, full sized light brown head. Aroma is malts, dark raisins, oak, a hint of cocos. Well Iím kind of disappointed that the barrel aging isnít really present. Taste malts, lightly roasty, lightly bourbon, quite bitter, oak, alcohol, dark fruit slightly. Lingering alcoholic malt bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. Good beer, but I expected more.

Friend got bottle at Holiday wine in Escondido I believe. Big huge stout chocolate richness and coffee overtones. Boozy in a enjoyable way. Slightly under carbonated but I enjoyed it that way. Perfect brew in my opinion.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Brass Tap - Midtown - on tap. Deep dark brown pour, sticky khaki colored head, decent lacing. Bourbon induced aroma, trace of dates. Bold flavor with some top shelf bourbon, hints of chocolate some licorice, a brief hint of cherry fruitiness. Decently thick mouthfeel. Usual not blown away by BAs - but this on sits right.

Bottle, black and thick, fantastic walnut colored head fades to a skiff. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, coffee, toffee, molasses, anise, burnt sugar, dried plums, raisin, shoyu, cookies, chocolate, toasted bourbon. Taste is toffee, vanilla, coffee, cookies, anise, plums, raisins and cherries, molases, boubon, oak, toasted barley, faint hops and anise bitter finish. This is a bit boozy and sweet, but nicely complex, super rich. Palate is thick, rich, but not syrupy, carbonation is moderate, but a bit almost too much for style. I was very excited for this. I love narwhal. But this might be too far. Itís definitly too sweet. Itís still a fantastic beer, but itís not gonna make my top ten. Ok, the more I drink this, the more I like it. Had to raise my rating.
