COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhal’s aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as it’s nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

Sweet caramel bourbon, creamy dark chocolate, raisins, molasses, oak, light espresso and roasted malts. Sweet vanilla and bourbon finish. The flavors really shine as it warms.

Bottle with Dynamite and Ronaldinho. I'm not a huge stout fan but this is getting the job done. Not much head to top off the pitch black liquid that pours. Significantly milder on the palate than anticipated. I'm not sure it warrants it's price tag but closer to the best stout than the worst for mine.

750 ccs from Whole Foods Plymouth and Capone’s. Pours dark blackish brown with 2-finger khaki head. Nose is huge oaky bourbon, dark malt, vanilla, molasses, cacao. Tastes dark malty, with heavy molasses, caramel, vanilla, woody, oaky bourbon, and fine tobacco. Not as dense as the regular version, and more cognacy, with more spirity notes as it warms. An exemplary strandler of the beer/spirit boundary.

Corky bottle and served in a I am too cool for you snifter: Near opaque with a small head and minimalist lace, some oily tears. Lovely combination of sweet vanilla bourbon and bitter charred malts. A touch of older school oxidation, dried golden raisin, and plum pudding adds a faint layer of complexity. Finishes off with dark chocolate and oak. Another not thin but not heavy beer. Overall I like this quite a bit but think I may like a simple few months old Narwhal more. Would kick it out outta bed for eating crackers however.

750 ml bottle poured into a snifter. Jet black with just under a finger of tan head. Aromas of whiskey, oak, light vanilla, bits of dark chocolate. Tastes of dark chocolate, whiskey, oak, vanilla, some booze. Full body with a dry finish. Enjoyed this a bit more on draft last year.

750 bottle. The pour is a deep black with a nice khaki colored head and a strong amount of lace. Solid lace. The aroma is decently hoppy. I like the decent roasted malt going on with a great licorice. There isn't any real vanilla, but the barrel comes through pretty decently. There is a faint chocolate on the back end. The flavor is a little bitter up front but is really good. There is a strong hop and dark fruit presence coupled with that great hoppiness. Great American imperial. The mouth feel is a touch thin but really good. There is a solid carbonation to help it stick around on the mouth. The aftertaste is lingeringly lightly bitter hop blast. It's a really good American style stout. Lots of barrel. I like it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. This is big thick smooth rich and bourbon-y face bomb. Loved it. Well worth the price.

Pitch black viscous pour... Tasted side by side with the non-BA version.... Aroma is roasted malts, lots of bourbon, vanilla and booze compared to original, chocolate... Flavor is more sweet and chocolatey than the non-BA version, less ash, more vanilla... Really nice, much better than original

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thick black pour with caramel colored head, aroma brought notes of nice dark fruit, molasses, and dark chocolate into a nice oaky, vanilla and bourbon note, some slight roasted malt, touch of yeasty spice as well. Taste is nice dark fruit, molasses, some caramel into big cocoa powder, bitter cocoa into some coffee, nice vanilla and oak come through, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter. Nice carb level and mouthfeel. Very well done, they kept the base beer, which I love, prevalent in the beer and highlighted some bourbon into it.

Bottle at home with my dad. Pour is pitch black with a small tan head and great lacing. Sweet cocoa, roasty, light vanilla, some booze, toffee, caramel, a hint of wood, and earthiness in the aroma. Taste is big coconut, dark chocolate, woody, a hint of vanilla, toffee, and graham crackers with a touch of alcohol on the backend. Slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. A little boozy but still tasty.
