COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhal’s aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as it’s nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

Black pour with a thin khaki head. Nose has some sweet bourbon and vanilla/brown sugar notes, along with a nougaty milk chocolate. Tastes really big and robust with big sweet dark chocolate flavors, a bit of charred oak, some caramelly bourbon, a light kiss of vanilla and brown , and a touch of mocha java. Ermahgerd amazing.

On tap at the barrel-aged tasting at World Of Beer-Cherry Creek in Denver, CO during GABF week. Black pour with a foamy khaki head. Wonderful aroma of German chocolate cake, vanilla, and oak. The taste does not disappoint; rich chocolate and coffee blend with bourbon and oak for a great imperial stout. Incredibly smooth for a beer of this complexity and ABV. An outstanding beer!

Poured from the bottle. Pours a great big black, with a light tan thin head. Notes of chocolate and coffee in that nose followed with the same in the mouth with a malty copperness. Great beer

Yep, they knocked it out of the park with this one. The barrel aging does not over power the beer, but compliments it. excellent

This is definitely not a Spring beer. You drink this at the crib when it’s cold. It has a pretty deep taste, a little bitter but not too bad. Sierra Nevada usually puts out good brewskies and this is in that lineage. I say "Yes!"

Rating 4900!3/28/13. On tap at Churchkey during CBC. Rich black pour with a small tan head that sticks. Rich BA aroma with fudge, semi-sweet chocolate, a touch of coconut and vanilla, butterscotch (in a good way), and hints of coffee. The flavor follows suit. Mouthfeel rich, but not overwhelming. A touch of heat. Tasty!

On tap in a tulip, deep black color with minimal tan head, aroma is a sweet molasses with fruit, taste is smoky, nice mouth feel, sweetness mixes with some tang and then a very nice lingering warmth that makes this one fine sipping beer

"Now THAT’s how you barrel a beer. Everything I hope for in a BA stout. Improves on the base. Bourbon is rich and very evident, without being too hot or overpowering the original beer. Rich, smooth, chocolatey vanilla boozy decadence in a glass. Possibly the best Sierra Nevada beer i’ve ever had. They shoulda bottled this instead a tha BA Bigfoot."

750 bottle. Black pour. The big aromas of Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, bourbon, are well fused, with some licorice in the background. Complex flavors are soooo good, Dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, vanillas, roasted coffee, and Bourbon. Smooth palate. Booze and some burn in the finish.

On tap at brewery 4/12/13- an absolute treat- very dark oily pour like a beautiful 10w-30 in a glass. slight head and nt much aroma but maybe bc it was a taster. Mouthfeel and taste was incedible- so much vanilla, perfect start and finish with the bourbon. Well done
