Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhalís aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as itís nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

Friend got bottle at Holiday wine in Escondido I believe. Big huge stout chocolate richness and coffee overtones. Boozy in a enjoyable way. Slightly under carbonated but I enjoyed it that way. Perfect brew in my opinion.

Black pour with a thin khaki head. Nose has some sweet bourbon and vanilla/brown sugar notes, along with a nougaty milk chocolate. Tastes really big and robust with big sweet dark chocolate flavors, a bit of charred oak, some caramelly bourbon, a light kiss of vanilla and brown , and a touch of mocha java. Ermahgerd amazing.

Aromas of vanilla, subtle coconut, sweet bourbon, grilled cherry, subtle booze. Black with a lasting small tan ring of head foam. Dark chocolate, char, bourbon, earthy. Full bodied.

Pours coal black with a two fingers of a thick, tan head. The nose is chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oak and booze. The taste is consistent with best BA Stouts: complex with strong notes of coffee, chocolate, oak, and subtle vanilla booziness. its a perfect dessert.

On tap at the barrel-aged tasting at World Of Beer-Cherry Creek in Denver, CO during GABF week. Black pour with a foamy khaki head. Wonderful aroma of German chocolate cake, vanilla, and oak. The taste does not disappoint; rich chocolate and coffee blend with bourbon and oak for a great imperial stout. Incredibly smooth for a beer of this complexity and ABV. An outstanding beer!

Beautiful opaque color, thick brown head. This is really quite excellent. Thick and roasty, with notes of dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla, I donít really get much coffee, which makes me happy. Also, while itís strong, it doesnít have that alcoholic flavor. Great stuff.

I love this beer. I was planning on buying a couple of cases again this year until I saw that they had increased the price and gone to a four pack instead of a six pack.. WOW double greedy! I simply never want to support nor reward this type of wanton greed.... Itís good, itís just not that good guys. IMO

Everything its reported to be, and more. Pitch black with beige\ruby foamy head. Nice smoky aroma, wood, roast malt, burnt toast, some alcohol that singes the nose hairs. Taste is a bit mellower, lots of alcohol warmth, more roastiness, lots of wood. A sipper...

Enjoyed the narwhal base, but found it a bit coffee heavy. This is a whole different beer! Vanilla forward, coffee much more subtle, great mouthfeel, not too syrupy but still full bodied. Have one aging for a long time, will be hard not to open it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thick black pour with caramel colored head, aroma brought notes of nice dark fruit, molasses, and dark chocolate into a nice oaky, vanilla and bourbon note, some slight roasted malt, touch of yeasty spice as well. Taste is nice dark fruit, molasses, some caramel into big cocoa powder, bitter cocoa into some coffee, nice vanilla and oak come through, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter. Nice carb level and mouthfeel. Very well done, they kept the base beer, which I love, prevalent in the beer and highlighted some bourbon into it.
