3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 yngwie (10761) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - FEB 16, 2013
Bottle. It pours a dark, dark brown body, looking clear, and topped by a dense, small, light beige head. Sweetish, bready, caramel maltyness in the aroma, with licorice hints. Some molasses and alcohol. It’s full-bodied and warming, with soft carbonation. Lasting flavor with roasted notes, molasses, bread hints and caramel. Some roasted bitterness. Hints of coffee. After a good while, the hoppy bitterness chimes in, lasting for a long time. A complex and tasteful beer well worth a revisit. 130216

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hockeybeerguy (212) - Portland, Maine, USA - FEB 15, 2013
It poured a dark black and gave the same color body. Some nice speckled, block-like lacing formed boxes around the sides of the pint glass, interesting. The smell had dry, roasty cocoa and coffee up front with a slight touch of hops in the background, and some vanilla as the beer warmed. The taste was dry and roasty between the coffee and cocoa and brought back some of that bitter hops. The finish was very dry. The palate was about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue and fairly drinkable. Overall, this is a hopped up RIS that is very good and I would come back to.

Draft. Aroma: lots of highly roasted malts and coffee, chocolate, toffee, sweet notes.
Appearance: jet black, opaque, tan head with average retention, good lacing.
Flavor: coffee and dark roasted malts dominate, toffee and dark chocolate, nice balancing bitterness, sort of a dry roasty character up front and then a somewhat sweet finish. Well balanced, very drinkable.
Palate: full body, low-medium carbonation, very smooth.
Overall: really nice brew, balanced and flavorful.
