3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Inky black color, thick & viscous with a rich, velvety tan head that shows decent retention. Aroma of roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, warming alcohol, leather, hints of ashy tobacco, & some black licorice. Taste is a bit more complex & involved, taking the aroma one step further in every facet. Heavy roast, charred malts, smoke, bitter cocoa nibs, anise, black licorice, a bit of dark fruit, even a touch of espresso near the finish. Licorice is the heaviest flavor lingering in the back-end with some ashy & leafy notes from the hops, lightly spicy. Aftertaste also heavy with charred woodiness, smoke, & burnt malt. Thick body, heavy mouth feel. A really nice RIS from Sierra Nevada.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from trade with Cunningham, cheers man! :-) Pours a jet black body with a small light beige head. Nose is licorice, dark berries, leather, chocolate, almonds and hints of nougat and dark malts. Taste is dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla and hints of licorice, grains, alcohol and dark berries. Full body, high to medium carbonation. Pretty straightforward, but definitely a solid imperial stout.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2013 vintage. Pours a deep black with short lasting tan head. As the bottle was opened strong aromas of dark fruits and molasses filled the air. In the glass is much the same with an alcohol burn in the back of the nose. Flavours bring molasses, coffee, plums and ethanol. The finish is an off-sweet mix of prunes, raisins, and dark chocolate. Big body and a a slightly sticky and slightly astringent mouthfeel.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Immediate smell upon popping was licorice...smelling directly gives a complex smell though, mostly of coffee, deep and smooth, very dark black, can’t see through, taste is coffee and slightly bitter, alcohol fairly strong, milky smoothness in background and lightly on finish...licorice still in there though
