3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Whole Foods, Bowery 355ml: Pours black like oil. Aroma is a whole lot of chocolate, coffee, dried and preserved fruits, molasses. Taste is somewhat sweet. Plenty fruity. Loads of chocolate. Bunch of coffee. Body is thick and viscous. Yet, this is surprisingly drinkable. As other people pointed out, this might not be the most balanced thing in the world, but it certainly ainít unbalanced in no bad way.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours completely black with a frothy mocha colored head that left rings and patches of sticky lace. Nose is bold espresso coffee, unsweetened chocolate , a hint of prune, licorice and a bit of alcohol. The alcohol smells solvent and detracts from the nose. There is blackened malt character on the nose with a hint of smoke. The drink is syrupy. First thing you notice is that the body of the beer is thin and has a slick mouthfeel. The alcohol is prominent on the palate. The malt is black and roasted to perfection. Dry, bitter and not burnt. The coffee and the chocolate are smooth but neither of those is sweet. I kept waiting for caramel or molasses and it did sweeten on the nose as it warmed so that made the alcohol seem less bitter. I also lost the fruits I observed on the nose and this one could have used some raisin or some dried dark fruits. That kept the taste very bitter also. Finished dry and with some alcohol dryness too.

Thin head, dissipates fast., beer opaque black. Aroma pineapple and caramel. Taste caramel, faint spicy peach, oak, coffee. Alcohol is subdued, bubbles fine, beer is viscous, oily. This is good beer, but subtle. A rich, complex imperial that is very drinkable. Glad I got the 4-pack!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 Vintage, 12oz Bottle - Oil Black pour with a creamy tan head. Rich aroma of coffee, chocolate, and hops. A lot of hops in the flavor even with a year on it, still drinks like itís fresh almost. Body is thick, sweet deep malts, the Carafa malt displays coffee really well and the Magnum hops are very bitter also leaving an intensely fruity finish. The stout needs more age, way too rowdy even after a year in the bottle. Itís a delicious stout but pretty unbalanced.

cask at pizza plant. Dark Brown black pour with a medium brown head with some lacing. Heavy roasted malt and coffee in the nose. Very sweet up front with coffee and dark chocolate with a bitter hop finish. Pretty smooth syrupy mouthfeel on cask.

Super intense - lovely stuff - coffee liqueur aftertaste - very dry finish slightly detracts hence I canít give it perfect points - bloody close though! Could drink this anytime but one is enough.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from bottle into tulip glass. VERY dark pour with a single finger of tan head that disappeared into a ring. Lots of lacing and sticky residue as consumed.
Aroma is malt, coffee, toast, leather, alcohol, soy sauce, raisin, vanilla, smoke.
Big taste...wow. Coffee, cocoa, licorice, raisin, boozy, molasses...very complex and deep flavors here.
Big full body, creamy thick sticky texture. Soft carbonation and a lingering bittersweet finish.
I may have to get another 4 pack of this and let it cellar...but really good as is!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle. Pours an opaque black liquid with a small tan head. Rich smoky roasted malt aroma with notes of licorice and dark roasted coffee. Intense roasted malt flavor has hints of licorice, dark chocolate, coffee and dried dark cherries. Amazingly complex and flavorful, this is a great example of a well made imperial stout.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle poured into snifter malt and cocoa aromas. Little to no head, thick black appearance. Tate its dry and slightly bitter,, but balanced, not sweet,, not too complex. Very smooth on the palate and the 10% abv is masked nicely, a well done stout.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours jet black with brown tinged 1 finger head. Aroma of coffee and slight milk chocolate. Taste is coffee forward with malty backbone. Mouthfeel is full. No sweetness. Finishes slightly dry and bitter. Well done. I prefer a slightly sweet finish but very well made beer.
