3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Cornelius. Dense black body with a medium beige head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of salt, espresso, herbs and blackcurrant. Flavour of black coffee, salt, dark chocolate and underripe plum. Faint peppery finish. Medium body with an slick, oily mouthfeel. Lively carbonation fizz for an Imperial Stout. Honestly, I was expecting more from this. Virtually no hop character and the end result is a bit one-dimensional.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle/SB. Black. Burned rubber, roasted barley, slight anise, sweet licorice hitting the nose. Black lush berries, but overall a pretty (burnt-) rubbery nose. Soft, sweetish, slight oily palate. A bit of woody flavours, some forestry things I suspect come from the hops (like licking a tree, or chewing on bark). This feels a bit unbalanced. Intensive flavours, but haphazardly thrown together. BBE 2014 says the add-on sticker, but this feels like something that just came out of the tank. Even though the body was ok/smooth, there’s too much poking my eye to make it enjoyable. I might venture it best AFTER 2014. Or 2015. Right now, it’s an engine- oily, salty mess.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2013 Bottle from Starmore and Boss, Sheffield. Nearly black. Brown halo of head. Aroma is licorice, blackcurrant sweets. Some leather. Taste is big toffee apple sweetness initially, that gives way to a burnt, dry, roast bitterness. Palate is full, and oily. Dry and bitter, but not harsh finish. Good beer to end an evening.

Pour is pretty much pitch black with a fluffy khaki head. Huge roasted malt up front on the nose, a nice hazelnut note, nice roasty coffee, dark bitter chocolate, and a noticeable earthy hoppiness. Very hoppy for an imperial stout with lots of fruity hop notes up front on the taste, then you go into a smooth milk chocolate flavor, creamy, then a hint of caramel and dark fruits, and then it ends on huge bitter roasted coffee. Great beer, I love the addition of hops to this, because it just wouldn’t be a SN beer without a nice hop presence.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Musty deep smell with dark chocolate, dark bread and roasted notes. The taste is very roasted like licking an old bbq. So roasted that it almost becomes sour. Some ink-like aromas. Very nice smell but the overuse of roasted barley ruins the taste.

Second time with this beast. First time it was good, but I was drunky.
Bottled day 227 of 2012
Pours a dark, deep black with a central dome and accompanying rim of tan foam confluenced by etching about the remainder of the surface. Smells of sweet malts, hints of graham, some bits of cocoa, a good nougat character and a bit of milky character. I like the nose, but it is lacking in the hops I usually associate with a fresh RIS. Taste is more bitter than I recall, and rightfully so, it has a good earthy, spicy authoritative hops charm and then some toasted malts, bits of bitter chocolate, coffee and a hint of graham still. Full bodied with small, sharp and fleeting carb. A thick, wet finish. Nice beer, should be a year round beer, rather than a seasonal - it’s nothing special and I like my seasonals to taste and be special.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
~Sweet molasses aroma with chocolate and coffee, slighlty charred with dark fruits. Well balanced nose
~Pours pitch black with creamy brown head that fades away after a couple minutes.
~Dark chocolate flavor with prune, tar, coffee, fired tobacco, and roasty bitterness.
~medium full bodied, medium low CO2, lingering burnt bitterness on finish. Some fusel alcohol burn.
~I would like to try this one aged for a year or so. Maybe mellow out the harsh bitterness a bit and balance out the flavors. Complex for sure, but currently a bit much.

Det här var en kraftfull sak med en kraftfull smak som bar toner av choklad, kaffe och jord. Kroppen var bastant men balansen satt inte helt på sin plats.
