12 oz. bottle. It pours a dark brown color with a small brown head. The aroma is dark chocolate heavy with some minor notes of coffee and honey sweetness. Maybe a touch of herbal, floral hops. The flavor is nicely roasted with more dark chocolate, honey, coffee with a mildly bitter, chocolaty finish. Very nice imperial stout that gets higher marks because of the awesome value.

Bottle. 10.2%. No best before date. Pours black with a dense brown head. Good lacing. Deep roasted aroma with a tar note. Flavour is tart and slightly fat, with a light citrus note, a roasted note, tar, and alcohol in the background. Nice bitter, somewhat dry, coffee finish with a lingering alcohol burn and a bit of grass. Overall really good; well-balanced, especially the alcohol, despite the high %. 05.10.13.

Poured from bottle. Thick, dark color with light-brown head. A nice malt forward aroma full of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, some coffee, and figgy fruits. Taste is sweet initially and then finishes bitter...almost astringent from the roasted malts. Overall, this is a great beer from Sierra Nevada. I actually had been overlooking it due to the lower price point but the staff at the bottle shop convinced me to give it a try...and I’m glad that they did. This beer will be interesting to age out and see what it does in the upcoming years.

2013 bottle to a tulip glass. Pouts jet black with a light brown head. Slightly sticky lacing, just short of oily. Nose is chocolate, malt, a little caramel, lactose some anise, and a bit if vegetal hops. Taste follows nose with the alcohol definitely coming through and a stronger hops bitterness than expected. Medium full mouthfeel with some alcohol burn. Good but will be better with some age when the hops drops out a bit. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. This is a big beast of an impy and it has all of the roasting and burnt carmel you could ever want.
