Narwhal Imperial Stout is the latest beer in Sierra Nevada’s High Altitude Series. This malt-forward monster is bold – with notes of baker’s cocoa, molasses, and dark roasted coffee. This massive imperial stout is incredibly complex, rich, and intense and will develop in the bottle for years to come.

Style: Imperial Stout
Hops: Magnum, Challenger

Heavy malt and a bit bitter, chocolate and coffee flavors. Small head that disappeared quickly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Overall: Powerful potent stout.

A: Typical IS smell, dark malts, coffee A: Pours black with a thin brownish head T: Roasted malts( but not acrid), coffee, slight cocoa, slight hop bitterness Kinda sweet P: Thick mouthfeel, low thus apropriate Carbonation. Slight Booze. O: Pretty good Is but Gould take a little more bitterness or roastiness to balance the rather sweet taste

Flaska från SB. Kolsvart, fina beiga gardiner. Stor robust och lätt söt doft av choklad, molass och kaffe. Aningen alkohol i bakgrund. Först relativt söt med eftersmaken är kärv och besk. Relativt stiltypisk, välgjord med stora smaker. En bra prisvärd IS.

For a stout beer with this high alcohol content. I would say it’s pretty damn good for those who like stout beer with a kick.

Loves the molasses in the smell and the front of the taste. Fantastic color for a RIS with a fine palate. Just a good beer all around. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - black beer with no head. Thick like oil. Nice sweetish cherry aroma. Strong and almost complex flavour. Dry. Medium bitterness.

Bottle. Overtoned on the hops not gonna talk it down too much, but it’s not high quality. Having said that its worth a drink if you like the stouts. Moral of the story don’t expect the best but its drinkable and enjoyable.

Large grey-beige head recedes to one finger atop a not quite opaque drab brown body.
It’s funny but I smell more Chico yeast in the nose than I do any actual imperial stout notes. It’s like this yeast is too efficient for its own good. Some light PNW hops (pine) and a touch of alcohol but certainly nothing of a rich or deep Impy here. (was about to say, "nothing wrong with it, though" but I’m sick of saying that. There are too many good beers to just be making beers that are simply "not bad").
In the mouth, it’s well-attenuated, with light chocolate, simple roast and hints of coffee. Alcohol is a little bit rampant, and the carbonation is not particularly tight, leading to a loose, watery finish, with too much alcohol burn. Hop acids are at least minimal, though felt. It’s like they took SNPA, added some roasted malt, some more hops and upped the grain bill. Not my cup of tea. Did not finish a 12oz bottle.

Wonderful aroma is present with this stout poured on draft at Yogis in Bloomington IN. A very straight forward stout with a well balanced taste and finish. A great standard for all imperial stouts to judge themselves by. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
