The silky mouthfeel reminds me of the crushed black velvet of an Elvis painting...outstanding and enough alone to love this beer. But thereís also the complex yet balanced blackness of the liquid as it caresses your mouth, throat, and ultimately your mind.

Tap. Dark with minimal head. Kind of flat. Not too much roasted flavor, but the alcohol tastes and flavors were very apparent. Not bad, but not the finest example of the style.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with heavy lacing. Very syrupy. Aroma of raisin, dried cherry, molasses, peat, coffee. Flavor is molasses, cocoa powder, coffee, woody, with the Sierra Nevada bitterness. Finish is quite dry. A nice heavy, dark and bitter beverage for a cold night.

This is a great stout. Nice and heavy, the way it should be. Chocolatey and thick, this stout is also very high gravity which lends itself to being drank while sitting down. :)

Pours a deep brown with a toffee colored, one finger head that dissipates quickly into a thin glaze on the top of the beer.
Smells a little boozy, plums, dark berries, unsweetened chocolate. Taste is a little smokey, some wood, espresso, chocolate. A nice little warmth from the alcohol. Mouthfeel is full and creamy.
Overall a good Imperial Stout. Not the best, but a respectable one nonetheless.

Bottle from mike67. Pours a deep slightly viscous black with a small brown head. Aroma and Taste of dark roasted caramel malt, some mild liquorice notes, dark fruit with some notes of dark cacao and mild espresso flavors with a dark toasted malt bitterness on the end for balance. A full bodied, creamy body on the palate with moderate carbonation and sticky mouth feel. A good full flavored brew, rich and creamy. Overall this is very good, delicious and flavorful brew.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours absolutely pitch black with a smallish dark tan head that fades to a thin ring around the edge of the glass.
The aroma is full of dark chocolate along with roasted caramel and a touch of smoke. There is a healthy dose of vanilla bean and some very light wood as well.
Loads of vanilla up front on the flavor followed by some cocoa, plum, and caramel. A touch of smoke and charred wood along with burnt caramel and a little honey. Alcohol is very well restrained and just becomes noticable towards the finish. Mouthfeel is very silky with just a touch of sweet stickyness in the finish.
Overall, a very well put together and nice imperial stout. Not at all too sweet and the alcohol is barely detectable. An awesome, and affordable, imperial stout from Sierra Nevada.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, beige head, with extensive lacing, over a black (SRM 45) body....nose is redolent with roasted malts, including chocolate, coffee, plum, raisin, roast beef, minimal hop tones.......taste is sweet to start, with plum, raisin and other dried fruits, moving to a bit of toffee/caramel, then coffee, lighter chocolate, and umami with beef and soy sauce notes, finishing with a moderate roasted malt hop bitterness, the heavy sweetness lingering throughout.....mouth feel thick, sticky, alcohol warmth present, low carbonation. I cannot think of ways to change this Imperial Stouts recipe, but this is a sugar bomb, and greater attenuation would improve it and hopefully lower the sweetness to a more balanced result. That would also increase the alcohol, so a different yeast? BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

A 12 oz bottle from Liberty Wine Merchants on The Drive in Vancouver. Full black with a generous tan head. Massive and intense chocolate and coffee notes here. Sweet, but with a dry finish. No side by side comparison available at the moment, but compares well with Old Rasputin and Brooklyn Breweries Black Chocolate imperial stouts. Itís a keeper...or not. I mean, Iíd like to put some aside to try in a year or so, but itís so good that itís not going to happen. Iíll be drinking it up every chance I get!
