3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Bottleworks. Pours ink black with medium thick mocha head. Aroma is dark roasty malts, dark chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Taste is rich chocolatey malt, mild hops balance out the finish. Notes of dark molasses, chocolate, and coffee. Thick body. Not as heavily roasted as the aroma suggested. Clean, straightforward imperial stout. Really needs some barrel time to take it to the next level. And, in fairness, may do well with some time in the bottle as well.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours jet-black with a thick, foamy, brown head that stays a while. Copious lacing. Nose is malt with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and dried fruits. Taste is devilishly bitter and some leathery, burnt-sugar notes come through on the palate. This full-bodied beast delights with moderately lively carbonation and a long caramel toffee finish. Home run, Sierra Nevada!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is molasses, coffee and roasted malts. Taste is molasses and prunes with deeep dark maltiness. Thereís a creaminess to this one, as well. Donít really pick up any coffee or chocolate in the taste. The finish is kinda sweet for a stout with just some faint bitterness.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark brown to ebony color with a very thin, tan head. It has a thick, heavy and alcohol-warmed mouth feel. The taste of molasses is present with a nice bitter finish.
AND the 10.5 ABV is a beast. A session beer for vikings.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep coffee-brown beer with a thin beige head that is not much more than a surface film. Nose of balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, and soy sauce. Flavor has a medium roast coffee bitterness up front followed by a touch of sourness with undertones of bitter chocolate and black strap molasses. This is not an overly powerful imperial stout, having a more subtle flavor, but that doesnít mean it lacks complexity. Not the best beer Iíve had in this style, but one of the smoothest.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A solid imperial stout. Lacking a little in taste compared to some of the better imperial stouts. Has a solid bitter finish though.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep dark brown color, nearly black. Healthy cardboard brown head. The lace says hi and then jets.
A chalky aroma: nutty, a bit toasted. There are more berries, though. The booziness manifests itself as a quasi-cherry liqueur. There is some horseblanket, but itís very subtle. Itís much sweeter in the nose than I expected. Iíve never seen a cocoa nib, but I feel like there is one in the aroma.
The flavor is much more burnt and roasted than in the flavor. There is a nutty finish that blunts that casual saccharine sweetness. The coffee and cocoa on the label are an accent, not the main event. As the heat comes in, the more dark, burnt flavors really emerge.
Feels dry and chalky, but there are some softer finishes on the palate. Iíll bet this one ages nicely. Letting it warm up a bit is an absolute must: take one out of the fridge and put it on the counter while youíre leading up to it.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
It is a bit rough around the edges, alcohol is pretty hot, finish is dicey. This is a middle of the road IS. Got it at Wegmans in Erie.
