Smooth malty drink. Deep roasted character with subtle chocolate and coffee. Nothing aggressive. Well meshed flavors. Lightly sweet with a slight boozy finish.

Harpooned this sucker out of a 12oz bottle. Pours a dark black with a medium to light beige head. With the smell you get big hits of coffee and malt. Iím also getting some hints of hops with the aroma that sometimes donít come through with an imperial stout. A nice coffee flavor comes through with an aftertaste of dark chocolate and malt. As far as the palate is concerned the malt flavor really sits heavy on the tongue. Itís a little too much for me. Very tasty beer that I would try again. But not one of the best Imperials out there. In my dang opinion.

Bottle from Cornelius. Dense black body with a medium beige head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of salt, espresso, herbs and blackcurrant. Flavour of black coffee, salt, dark chocolate and underripe plum. Faint peppery finish. Medium body with an slick, oily mouthfeel. Lively carbonation fizz for an Imperial Stout. Honestly, I was expecting more from this. Virtually no hop character and the end result is a bit one-dimensional.

Bottle/SB. Black. Burned rubber, roasted barley, slight anise, sweet licorice hitting the nose. Black lush berries, but overall a pretty (burnt-) rubbery nose. Soft, sweetish, slight oily palate. A bit of woody flavours, some forestry things I suspect come from the hops (like licking a tree, or chewing on bark). This feels a bit unbalanced. Intensive flavours, but haphazardly thrown together. BBE 2014 says the add-on sticker, but this feels like something that just came out of the tank. Even though the body was ok/smooth, thereís too much poking my eye to make it enjoyable. I might venture it best AFTER 2014. Or 2015. Right now, itís an engine- oily, salty mess.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2013 Bottle from Starmore and Boss, Sheffield. Nearly black. Brown halo of head. Aroma is licorice, blackcurrant sweets. Some leather. Taste is big toffee apple sweetness initially, that gives way to a burnt, dry, roast bitterness. Palate is full, and oily. Dry and bitter, but not harsh finish. Good beer to end an evening.

Bottle, 355ml - Opaque black beer with a large beige head. Aroma is malty with notes of chocolate, coffee, nuts and dried fruit. Flavor is malty with notes of caramel, chocolate, dried fruit and herbs. Pretty unique notes that are really enjoyable.

Pour is pretty much pitch black with a fluffy khaki head. Huge roasted malt up front on the nose, a nice hazelnut note, nice roasty coffee, dark bitter chocolate, and a noticeable earthy hoppiness. Very hoppy for an imperial stout with lots of fruity hop notes up front on the taste, then you go into a smooth milk chocolate flavor, creamy, then a hint of caramel and dark fruits, and then it ends on huge bitter roasted coffee. Great beer, I love the addition of hops to this, because it just wouldnít be a SN beer without a nice hop presence.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Musty deep smell with dark chocolate, dark bread and roasted notes. The taste is very roasted like licking an old bbq. So roasted that it almost becomes sour. Some ink-like aromas. Very nice smell but the overuse of roasted barley ruins the taste.
