It pours black with a dark brown head. It has strong coffee aromas with chocolate and roasted scents as well. It has chocolate and coffee flavors with alcohol tastes and warming. There is a bitter finish.

Packaged 08.13.14. Poured from a 12 oz into a snifter on 01.18.15. A: Cocoa, dark chocolate, and roastiness. A: 2 1/2 finger light tan fluffy head that is retained. Midnight black body with no red. T: Cocoa, dark chocolate, and dark fruit are dominant. Raisin, a slight coffee bitterness, and a slight woodiness are subtle. P: Creamy smooth and fluffy. Somewhat light mouthfeel. Itís a tiny bit watery. O: I hated this before and actually dumped it down the drain. Palates can apparently change after one year, and now I love it. What is now a slight coffee bitterness was overwhelming before. The alcohol is almost completely hidden because magic. This is a top-tier stout that should be hoarded.

This imperial stout is a real and complex one of a kind! Pitch black and mounted by a nice pale beige head, the beerís aromas are nose-filling: malt, roated malt, coffee and chocolate. Pretty common nose for an imperial stout. I get some alcohol and a bit of whiskey as well. Just by making the beer dancing in the glass, you expect a medium to full body from the beer. The taste brings back the aromas described above so no need to say again, but the mouthfeel has a fine acidity that cuts right in the middle of the tongue making the beer almost sparkling on the palate, and this has nothing to do with the beerís carbonation wich is average. Very good and interresting beer!

oil-black with a medium-light-brown head, fine/creamy carbonation of an inch that sticks around as a film (slow rate of decay.) Aroma is chocolate, touch of soy sauce, lemon-grass with hint of lavender, some sap, touch of caramel. Body is medium-heavy, syrupy and a bit oily with moderate carbonation, medium-fine coarseness, soft feel with very little burn. Flavor is a touch smoky light caramel sweetness with light chocolate, a touch of woody pine, light bitterness in the finish. Toasted marshmallow. A delicious imperial stout given that it has not been barrel ages - you can tell they worked a while bringing out interesting yet balanced flavors. I particularly like the smoky/woody/caramel notes in the flavor - that is grand!!

Real dark and rich imperial stout with a coffee taste. Not metallic, very smooth. Perfect for those cold winter nights by the fire. Subtle tasting, not overwhelming. Really nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz 2012 bottle. Unlike most people, Iíve had the barrel aged version of this prior to trying the regular version which, as you can infer, Iíve cellared for a good while. Well, Iím happy to find that this regular RIS is exceptional if not quite as tasty as the barrel aged version. It certainly looks great: opaque black with a durable light brown head and lovely lacing. The high ABV is evident in the nose but otherwise fairly well hidden. Plenty of dark roasted grain flavor with minimal char and very light smoke -- just right IMO. Excellent bitter-sweet balance and mix. Feel: Full but not thick body. Near medium, soft carbonation. O: Excellent. I havenít tried a fresh sample yet but Iíd bet waiting until this is about 2 years old is a wise move.

Bottle. Smoky roasty coffee aroma, with chocolate. Taste is full of molasses, bitter coffee, with a smoky aftertaste. Very bitter in the finish. Very good imperial stout!

Pours a black color with mocha thin head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee, some note of raisin liquor. Medium to heavy body. Taste bittersweet with a mix of roasted coffee, roasted malts, some chocolate and dark dried fruit flavor. very nice beer, smoth and creamy, well balanced.
