355 ml bottle courtesy of my secret Santa joeneugs. Pours black with a rather small frothy dark mocha head that slowly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, dark chocolate, banana, sweetened dark roast coffee, alcohol, black pepper, wood, burnt cookies, caramel, salty liquorice candy and alcohol. Taste is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, pine, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, freshly cut grass, mineral rich soil, resinous wood, grapefruit rinds, ammonium chloride, orange peal, coffee hard candy, banana, alcohol and minerals. Mouthfeel is round, oily bitter, tiny astringent and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, banana, pine, grapefruit rinds, resinous wood and hints of salty liquorice. Very solid beer and a nice tasty US imperial stout,

"Excellent! Pleasant surprise when i saw this in a 4-pack when I had assumed I’d be plunking down $8 for a big bottle. Big roasted malts on the nose, with some evergreen hops, dark fruit, cocoa, and coffee. Flavor much the same after a big but very very smooth mouthfeel. 4.1-42 on this one - I’ll start low but may up my score with a bottle to myself. Yet another hit for Sierra Nevada!"

Dark as dark can be nice stout aroma on pouring. Taste is heavy with roasted coffee flavor and hints of dark chocolate. Bold flavor on the palate. Finish is very chewy malty.

A very complex stout. A serious beer with hints of cocoa but not overly chocolaty. Delicious! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark oil black. Thick tan head. Coffee. hot. Not sure what to make of this. More alcohol taste than anything else.

Pours out black as night with a tan, sticky head. The amount of foam that it yields is the only thing that brings the appearance down from a 5 to a 4 - other than that it’s beautiful. Aroma is a little roasty, a little hoppy with a surprising amount of malt sweetness. I am also getting light cappuccino-like coffee aromas. Definitely doesn’t smell as strong as it looks. Tastes smoky with a sharp hop bitterness that comes out in the middle and stays through the aftertaste. I am getting some dark chocolate flavors as it warms up. I would prefer a thicker palate, but that’s really my only complaint. Good offering from Sierra Nevada, a brewery that is really growing on me.

Éjfekete színű, átlátszatlan testére kakaó barna hab telepszik, szakaszosan előtörő illatai között mogyoró, rumos kávé aromája lengi be az étert. Az olajostól némiképp ritkább textúrájúnak tűnik első szemrevételezésre, belekóstolva azonban mennyei testesség, krémes állag bontakozik ki. Már-már szirupos jellegben öltenek testet a pörkölt maláta, kakaó és sötét csokoládé ízjegyei, selymes egymásba karolásuk intenzív összhatást produkál, melyhez az alkohol likőrös jellege szolgál nyomatékként. Egészen fantasztikus imperial stout.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful deep black with toffee colored head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste big on the roasted malts, with coffee and dark chocolate.

Pours a thick black with a vanilla cream head. Smells of malt and roasted espresso. Thick bitter sweet taste. A nice stout that’s not too heavy.
