4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 6, 2013 Has a jet black appearance with a finger length dark mocha head that dissipates slowly and leaves a thick lacing. Smells of lots of bittersweet chocolate, good amount of coffee, nice roasted element to it, some oak, molasses, maybe some dark fruit as it warms. Taste starts with the bittersweet chocolate and molasses. Then in the middle, a huge dose of roastiness comes through from the roasted barley, along with more molasses. Then the finish is more of the roasted flavors, almost like a smokiness, along with lots of bittersweet chocolate, more molasses, some coffee or expresso, a tiny bit of hop presence, get some fig as well. Definite alcohol presence on the finish as well, but does not detract from the other flavors. Pretty full body with a sticky and creamy mouthfeel. Decent amount of carbonation that livens up the body of the beer. This will age nicely. Nothing too flashy, but a solid imperial stout at an affordable price.

Dark as dark can be nice stout aroma on pouring. Taste is heavy with roasted coffee flavor and hints of dark chocolate. Bold flavor on the palate. Finish is very chewy malty.

A very complex stout. A serious beer with hints of cocoa but not overly chocolaty. Delicious!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours out black as night with a tan, sticky head. The amount of foam that it yields is the only thing that brings the appearance down from a 5 to a 4 - other than that it’s beautiful. Aroma is a little roasty, a little hoppy with a surprising amount of malt sweetness. I am also getting light cappuccino-like coffee aromas. Definitely doesn’t smell as strong as it looks. Tastes smoky with a sharp hop bitterness that comes out in the middle and stays through the aftertaste. I am getting some dark chocolate flavors as it warms up. I would prefer a thicker palate, but that’s really my only complaint. Good offering from Sierra Nevada, a brewery that is really growing on me.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Éjfekete színű, átlátszatlan testére kakaó barna hab telepszik, szakaszosan előtörő illatai között mogyoró, rumos kávé aromája lengi be az étert. Az olajostól némiképp ritkább textúrájúnak tűnik első szemrevételezésre, belekóstolva azonban mennyei testesség, krémes állag bontakozik ki. Már-már szirupos jellegben öltenek testet a pörkölt maláta, kakaó és sötét csokoládé ízjegyei, selymes egymásba karolásuk intenzív összhatást produkál, melyhez az alkohol likőrös jellege szolgál nyomatékként. Egészen fantasztikus imperial stout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 12 oz bottle an oily black with a soft, oily chocolate head. Aroma is big roasted malts, anise, burnt coffee, light dark fruit. Chocolate, some alcohol when it gets to room temp, and some nice caramel notes as well. Flavours are a blend of dry coffee, herbs, currents, and dark chocolate. Medium bodied with a somewhat woody finish. Solid, but a bit underwhelming.
