Well for an ’Imperial’ it holds aloft a lot of tannish foam - a good two fingers worth that messes up the glass well. Typically opaque and black as night but with little evidence of bottle conditioning. Smoky, deep, roasted malt and piney, camphorous hop nose with inklings of cola, molasses and scorched berries. Viscous, thick and smooth on the palate. Lovely mouthfeel and it holds that alcohol well spruiking up only in the lack of being able to physically stand up after a Schooner. Lots of smoke and scorched berry skins lasting after each swallow amongst a mocha, bitter chocolate back end with light hop bitterness aiding. Front end is simplistic, pleasing deep malts that are residually sweet. Very deceiving stuff; would love if it held that alcohol proud. Too easy to drink it may as well be a sweet, session stout. I like it; I don’t,. Completely split, but might crack another if I can get myself up!!! (12fl,Oz. 2012 bottling, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours black with a half finger of dark brown head. Aroma of cocoa and chocolate with caramel and raisin. Taste is light bitter and light sweet. Follows aroma with some dark fruits and raisin. Great stout, I wish it was year round.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2014 2014-06-6: 7+3+7+3+15 = 3.5. Bottle, 2013 edition. Black with a medium sized diminishing dark brown head. Roasted malt, chocolate, warming alcohol, vanilla, pine and citrus hops, doughy yeast notes.. Medium body, oily/sticky texture, medium carbonation. Medium/heavy sweet and medium bitter. A bit hot from mid to finish leaving a bit of a stinging sensation on the gums. Drinks ok for the abv, but somewhat forgettable in the big black ocean of imperial stouts.

Looks pretty good. Still a bit too hot on the alcohol for my taste. It starts ok with soft vanilla and chocolate flavours, but then the alcohol takes focus which is a shame. Starts well, but it’s downhill from there. Leaves me alone and disappointed.

Poured from 12oz bottle, pours black with a nice light brown head and spotty lacing, aroma has a decent amount of chocolate mixed with roasted malt, the flavor has a sweet front end with cocoa and sweet chocolate in the finish, the abv is slightly tasted in the finish, wanted a little more out of the mouthfeel of it, all around a nice addition to the seasonal brews from SN, will probably pick up at least one 4 pack a year.

12oz bottle. Rating #128. Inky black pour with a nice brown head. Mild roast up front with an underlying chocolate sweetness. Nice flavor, mild roast again with a bit of bitter chocolate coming through in the finish. Good stuff. (2566)

Bottle. Pours viscous black with tan head. Not as much aroma as I was expecting, notes of baking cocoa and dark roast. Flavor is malty, bitter sweet, aggressive dark roast, bitter chocolate, hints of molasses. Heavy mouthfeel with low carbonation. Overall, nice big brew!
