This massive imperial stout is incredibly complex, rich, and intense and will develop in the bottle for years to come.

This is just a home run from Sierra Nevada. Think Victory Storm King meets Old Rasputin. Velvety-smooth, with floral hop bitterness, cool roastiness and a clean, dry finish. Hoppiness makes it stand out from the Imperial Stout mainstream, perfect balance and drinkability means it punches with the best of them. An instant classic. Can’t wait to see how it ages.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2012 Absolutely fantastic. Narwhal deftly avoids the pitfalls of many Imperial stouts, hiding its 10% alcohol and maneuvering around the syrupy sweetness of some cousins. Pours black with a slight tan ring of head. Nice right carbonation does a good job of scraping the tongue. Dark espresso and cocoa pervade, and some light high alpha hops add some nice tongue-zinging spice. An absolute masterpiece.

2012 Vintage. Pours pitch black with a small dark tannish brown head. Smells of dark chocolate, molasses, and hints of dark roast coffee. Taste is dark chocolate, hints of coffee and a touch of booze. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Sierra Nevada Narwhal Imperial Stout finishes with a touch of boozy dark chocolate.

Super intense - lovely stuff - coffee liqueur aftertaste - very dry finish slightly detracts hence I can’t give it perfect points - bloody close though! Could drink this anytime but one is enough.

Absolutely look forward to this beer every year. Dark, creamy, smooth, little burn, but totally awesome.

A very complex stout. A serious beer with hints of cocoa but not overly chocolaty. Delicious! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle from 4 pack - retail 9.99 - Excellent aroma, and for being a 10.2% alcohol the taste is well hidden with the chocolate and malty flavor. This Imperial Stout has earned its way as one of my favorites from Sierra Nevada. After taste was great.

Aroma: roasted milk chocolate, molasses, and slight black cherry. Appearance: jet black, thin tan head. Taste: molasses, cocoa, espresso-like bitterness, and significant booziness. Palate: Full, milky-smooth, with prickly, boozey sensation, and a bitter, boozey finish.

Black with a big dark brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and cocoa. Taste is the same with lots of hops, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, full body, thick feel, average carbonation. Long roasted hoppy finish.

Really high alcohol content (10.2%), but tastes rich and smooth. This is one of the better Imperial Stout’s available.
