Poured a black body with a nice brown head that had some retention and a bit of lace. Aroma had nice roasted coffee and chocolate malts upfront a nice kick of saddle leather to it. Flavor had great balance with nice roasted malts. A nice strong roasted coffee presence upfront. Great balance from the chocolate malts which were sweet enough to complement the bitterness of the coffee malts. Alcohol seemed well hidden, could note detect molasses. Still a good beer.

This imperial stout gets it mostly right. The aroma falls short out of the bottle, but is mostly roasted malt with a hint of sweetness. Taste is big on malt; bitter chocolate plays a major role. The alcohol is perfectly balanced with the malt and hops.

Narwhal Imperial Stout is very dark. Black even. Very complex and rich. Tan head and is great in colder months.

This made me think of various types of Guinness brews but I actually prefer Narwhal.

Thanks to spinrsx for this. Pours black with a big fizzy brown head that lowers to a wisp. Aroma is orange citrus hops, with vanilla and roasted malts. Taste is awesome. Great balance with some sweet vanilla beans and mocha but is light as I like it. Citrus hops add complexity that I love. Great beer.

Bottle. Pours black like motor oil with tan head. Nose is lots of chocolate. Taste is some creamy caramel, chocolate and roast. Some dryness in the finish. Good.

Bottle at home split with Sarah from BEER:Shop St Albans. REally dark opaque black coloured pour with a lasting dark tan head. Aroma is biscotti, dark fruits, raisin, slight belgian yeast. Nice layered malts, with smoked malts and melanoidin sugars. Flavour is rounded soft roasts, brown suagrs, really rounded and full malts. Clean and smooth roast. Nice clean ferment with lingering tart berry fruit, and dark choc. Really smooth palte, velvety on the tongue. Very Very Good.

Didn’t have any head at all. Smells like chocolate and coffee. Medium body for sure. Little bit of bitterness at the end. BUT WOW, this has chocolate and coffee and lots of it. wow. Little bit of caramel sweetness at the end. This goes down real easy. I don’t pick up any alcohol. As it warms you can smell a little bit of the alcohol but nothing bad.

Bottle. Black pour with a minimal tan head. Bitter dark chocolate, malt, and coffee with an alcohol presence. Tasty and complex and probably will age gracefully. A bit of an edge to it when fresh.

Bottle to snifter. Nose is dark and bitter chocolate. Pour is black with a small light brown head. Taste is dark dark chocolate to the point of almost being a harsh bitterness. Smooths out with each sip. A tad grassy so I’m guessing this is relatively highly hopped. Flavors start to come together as it warms but still seems a little out of balance. Ok but I’d like to see it with some age on it.
