Narwhal Imperial Stout is the latest beer in Sierra Nevadaís High Altitude Series. This malt-forward monster is bold Ė with notes of bakerís cocoa, molasses, and dark roasted coffee. This massive imperial stout is incredibly complex, rich, and intense and will develop in the bottle for years to come.

Very viscous and pitch black with a small tan head that lingers around the edge of the glass. Aroma is generally subdued, but the alcohol is noticeable in the aroma (not like they can do anything about that at 10.2%). Taste is smoky roasted malts, dark chocolate, espresso, with a little bit of savoriness/umami and a bitter chocolate finish. Only seems to be missing a little in the "middle". The body is huge, but some more sweetness instead of just maltiness to back that up would have been nice. The hopping level suggests that this beer is intended to compete directly with Old Rasputin. Overall an outstanding beer.

Thick black brew with brown head that dies off fast. Smells of alcohol and chocolate malts. Taste is pretty much the same but with a hop bitter dryness. There is an alcohol bite to it that does let you know this one is not something to chug but rather sip at. Decent brew but too much booze to make it really enjoyable. Got a 4 pack so thinking about hanging on to the other 3 a while to see if they mellow some with age.

Pours Black, very black with a small diminishing head which clings to the glass, roasted malts very earthy aroma high alcohol fumes, flavour was heavily roasted malts, coffee and chocolate mixed in had a very earthy bitterness to it, soft carbonation, found it refreshing even on a 33 degree evening slick in the mouth, excellent stout.

Pours black, thick with light brown head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is very faint toasted malt, faint cocoa. Taste is toasted, chocolate, dried dark fruit with barely a hint of alcohol. Nice chewy mouthfeel. This is a great stout and the ABV is barely noticeable, which could be dangerous. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle from Vintage Estates Wine and Beer, poured into a snifter. Thereís a nice light brown head that you donít always see when pouring a heavy beer like this. Just coming out of the bottle I notice that itís not as thick-looking as others either. Still, itís jet black and completely opaque. Smell isnít as complex as I had expected. Itís certainly roasty, like a burnt toast kind of scent, with a little dark chocolate. Smells like a stout, not really an imperial stout. Really shines on the palate, though. Thereís a lot going on, but not so much that it overwhelms you. Bitter up front, sweeter on the finish, lots of roasty flavors and a lot more coffee to it than expected. The mouthfeel is perfect, Iíd never believe that this is a 10.2% beer. Goes down like a normal stout. This beer is of the style and high-quality that I expect from Sierra Nevada. Very well done.

12 oz bottle from Total Wine. Home with a snifter. Pours a thick black with deep mocha head. Aroma is booze, chocolate, cocoa powder, graham crackers. The taste isnít as boozy as the aroma. Chocolate, cocoa powder, graham cracker, caramel, and vanilla. Hint of coffee bitterness at the finish along with the booze. Better as it warmed. Medium mouth and carb. Slick. Full body. Great flavor.

Big old beer here. Rich and thick with a ton of roast with smooth hop bitterness. Nice full bodied mouthfeel without being too thick or heavy. Big flavors but balanced with nothing sticking out or harsh. Not a killer but a well brewed beer.

I love Sierra but the taste is very high alcohol for the end result. Color is black. Taste is chocolate still like it. As my brother used to say Absurd yet Flacid ! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Aroma sweet, milk chocolate, raisins, dark fruits, some warming alcohol. Inviting. Pitch black colour. Taste is mostly sweet, chocolate, intensely roasted, some alcohol. Decent hoppy bitter base, which reveals itself in the finish.

Aroma is lacking unless you enjoy smelling high alcohols from bad brewing beer is way to thin for style and has zero malt complexity. How do you even let a beer like this leave the brewery? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Chocolate, alcohol aroma. Appearance is jet black with a thick brown head with excellent retention. Chocolate and coffee notes. Balance is slightly towards the bitterness side. High alcohol flavor is prevalent. The mouthfeel is thin with a medium carbonation and a slight astringency. Overall, it's a poorly made imperial stout. The high alcohol flavor overwhelms the beer and it's way too thin. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
