COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Each fall, hops reach their peak flavor- bursting with aromatic oils that give ales layers of complex flavor and aroma that can only happen at harvest time. For us, fall comes twice a year- once in each hemisphere. This Harvest Ale features "wet" or un-dried whole-cone hops from Yakima, WA that are plucked from the bine and delivered to our brewery within 24 hours of picking.

Had this on tap at the BrickStore Pub after the Great Decatur Beer Tasting Festival. Amber-Orange in color. Hops are very presentt in the aroma. They must have used a good amount. Fresh hops are all through the palate. Very green. You could really pick up the fresh hop flavors. I hope that more of S.N. will continue to make hopped up beers like this or even Celebration!!

Pours a deep clear amber with a lasting white head. Aroma is huge caramelly malts, and lots of delicious hoppy citrusy goodness. The body is med. and well balanced. The flavors are nothing too complex, just perfect. Big caramel malt backbone, lots of fresh dry hop juicinesss, and a touch of alcohol warmth. A lovely pale ale if I have everhad one.

On tap at The Map Room. Pours a copper/orange with a medium sized rocky white head. Solid NorthWest hop profile with sharp pine notes grabbing you from the start. Very clean, crisp and the bitterness lingers nicely.

10/18/2006: Deep orange/cooper color, clear. Big foamy, lasting ivory colored head. Lots of nice lattice-like lacing. Aroma has some light toffee malt and lots of fresh hops (orange with some pine). Flavor is even more citrus/grapefruit and pine hops and slightly sweet. The hops are fresh and pretty mild overall. They are balanced by the smooth, even underlying toasted malt (toffee with some caramel). The mouthfeel is quite smooth. This beer is not overly thick or syrupy. This is a very enjoyable brew. I love Harvest Ales!

22 oz draught, $4.95 at the Winking Lizard Tavern - Crosswoods (Columbus, Ohio).

2010 Vintage

11/02/2010: Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest 2010 Wet Hop Ale... Aroma: Loaded full of juicy citrus hops! Fresh-pressed clementine; blossom honey, Appearance: Beautiful pour of shiny coppery orange liquid that is transparent and sparkling; flurry of tiny carbonation bubbles feeding upwards to a pillow of fluffy beige foam; great head retention and lacing. Flavor: Sweet toasted and toffee malt very quickly gives way to a heap of fresh hop flavor and a generous bitterness; hop flavors include leafy green hops (slightly floral too), tangerine peel with tinges of grapefruit and pine sap, subtle spicy grassiness as well; the bitterness is strong, but has a soft edge to it that makes it so enjoyable and a reason why I love Harvest Ales. Palate: Medium-full; mellow and soft; very nice. Overall: Fantastic! - it hits the spot right now! Easily sessionable... I always enjoy the SN Harvest Ales; plus they are always available at a really reasonable price (especially for a 24 fl oz bottle!).

Draft, a beautiful orange/ amber color with a good head. Beautiful Northwest hops. A great beer from a great brewery, beer hits you at the end with HOPS and is not that what it is all about.

Tap at Waterfront. Clear amber/orange with a frothy off-white, mostly lasting head, leaving thin stripes of lacing. Bright aroma of orangey and floral hops. Light cookie malt flavor with tingling hoppiness up front, but the hops really shine through on the finish-- with a character of fresh vegetable/grass, green bell pepper and tea. Nicely done.

This is a very decent beer, but perhaps I was expecting more. I found this on tap at none other than the Toronado in San Fran. A very good beer and was glad to finally sample it.

At the Falling Rock Kill a Keg party during GABF 06. Dark amber with a light white head. Fabulous pangant citris and pine aroma. Huge hop flavor of pine resin and some malt sweetness. Rich and sticky mouthfeel. A real treat.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2007 Draught during my Great Lakes region brew tour. During my drinking experience I couldn’t help but reference Sierra Nevada’s standard Pale Ale. This bears many similarties to that beer. It’s essentially identical in appearance and the aroma is pretty close too, though perhaps more rich. The flavor brings out a more complex hop profile. More grassy notes, melon, and an overall juiciness create a more satisfying drinking experience. This is a completely solid APA. [Nov 10, 2007]------- wow, this tastes so much like pot.
