Each fall, hops reach their peak flavor- bursting with aromatic oils that give ales layers of complex flavor and aroma that can only happen at harvest time. For us, fall comes twice a year- once in each hemisphere. This Harvest Ale features "wet" or un-dried whole-cone hops from Yakima, WA that are plucked from the bine and delivered to our brewery within 24 hours of picking.

Bottle from Ayotte’s Crystal clear deep golden color with a huge bubbly off white head that persists forever. Rich bready caramel maltiness Juicy earthy citrus and pine. Wish I’d picked this up a bit fresher, but glad to try. And 32 oz for 5 bucks is a hell of a deal.

I’m not as into these "wet hopped" ipa’s as I once thought I was. Theres really not much going on here. It’s basically a shit ton of malt with earthy aromas mixed in. I really can’t pick out any hop aromas of any kind. It’s bitter but at what cost? I am not trying to be an asshole, but there’s just not much going on with this beer. I’m noticing this with a lot of these SN beers lately. I feel like their pale ale, torpedo, and all these harvest beers taste the same. There’s just a massive subdued hoppiness and I’ve felt this way for a long time now. Torpedo on tap is pretty good but other than that, their ipa’s just kind of taste lame. This could just be me, and it would suck if I’m missing out on something great, but as of lately, I’m just not feeling SN "hoppy" beers.

355 ml bottle, vintage 2015, in Nevada City. Amber to copper colour, large white head. Pleasant aroma of fresh hops, herbal and fruity notes. The flavour is also well hopped throughout, but the bitterness is not extreme for an IPA. A very decent and enjoyable beer.

Bottle pour. Amber color, thin head, hazy. Lots of hops, some floral notes, some malt sweetness, and dank earthy undertones that seemed a bit too strong to me. Moderate bitterness, moderate body, oily mouthfeel. Nice finish with the earthy tones nicely toning down a bit.

Ultra-fresh hops from the Yakima Valley packed into a brew with a large enough malt body to support them. What could be better than that? If you love wet hops, Harvest has all the qualities you could hope for. Dankness, juiciness, oils, resin, grassy notes, sticky (bitter)sweetness, and intense aromatics. People who aren’t usually fans of Sierra Nevada’s fans might be pleasantly surprised by the restrained bitterness and lower-than-average ABV. For the initiated, there are no surprises here. A great hop feast by Sierra Nevada. Go figure.
