COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This abbey ale is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and the monks, at the Abbey of New Clairvaux. Belgian inspired golden ales are noted for their devilish personalities, but there is nothing mischievous about this complex ale. It is brilliant golden and layered with notes of summery apple and pear and pepperv spice from the use of a traditional Belgian yeast strain. A portion of proceeds from this ale goes toward the restoration of the historic Santa Maria de Ovila chapter house on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux. This medieval building stood for nearly eight centuries in Spain. William Randolph Hearst purchased the monastery 1931 and planned use the stones for a castle even grander than his famous San Simeon. Although Hearst’s, plans crumbled. these historic stones will rise again in a California Cistercian abbey.

Bottle pours clear straw yellow with a foam white head with lots of staying power from the unending carbonation. Obviously filtered. Nose of grass, earth, bubblegum, and malt. Taste begins sweet, then is rounded out by lots of grass and earth on the finish. Body is light and the carbonation is prickly. Sweetness hangs on the tongue for a bit.

Appearance : Clear pale yellow with white foamy head.
Aroma : Yeasty and spicy with light floral notes.
Taste : Dusty yeast with floral and spicy hops. Some alcohol. Yeasty finish, quite spicy, light alcohol, quite bitter.
Overall : Not bad but a bit too spicy for my taste. A bit too much alcohol too. Not really my thing.

Gold, clear, huge rocky white head. Aroma of biscuity malt, a corriander-like spiciness. Flavor of dry, crackerlike malt, prickly effervescent carbonation, earthy spice, a little light fruitiness. Well balanced and drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Split a 750ml bottle. Poured a slightly cloudy golden color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was some light fruits, pepper notes with yeast character. Flavor was a touch dry, pepper notes, touch of sweetness. Alcohol was pretty well masked. Pretty enjoyable.

Appearance was a golden pale color with about 3 finger white head with both tight and large bubbles. Aroma has the Belgian yeast characteristics with lemon zest, pepper and prickly bear. Taste hits you up front with Belgian Flavors then with white grape and pear. It follows with a peppery bite. Mouthfeel has a light body with the prickly carbonation that could be predicted.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. The cork put a dent in my ceiling, but there is a warning. The fruity aroma from the yeast filled the room. The flavor was filled with fruits, soft caramel, pilsner malts, some berries. A tasty golden Belgian ale.

Bottle. Dry sparkling wine aroma, slightly sweet taste, dry across the palate, with a wheat or toast finish. The high abv is not overbearing but contributes to the wine like experience. This is not my type of beer but and I honestly think that there is much better in this style.

From a 750 Belgian bottle. Pours a pale, dusty gold color with a huge rocky head. Definite Belgian beautiful funk aroma, peppery spices with hints of earthy citrus. Pleasantly spicy mouthfeel with lingering citrus flavors. Excellent.

A good golden Belgian. Pours a mostly clear golden color with a lot of head, but dissipates quickly. Smells of nectarines and cherries. Taste is similar, nectarine or apricot with a little bit of a boozy finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the caged, corked 750 ml. bottle. The label says open with care but the pop of the cork was fairly mild compared to some with plenty of carbonation smoke bursting from the top of the bottle. The color is golden yellow, a bit cloudy, and with a long lasting foamy white head. Aroma of pale malts, Belgian yeast, pear, and a low hop character. The body is full. The taste is sweeter than traditional abbey stongs with a slightly heightened dry hop bite on the rear Overall a nice creation from Sierra Nevada.
