COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This abbey ale is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and the monks, at the Abbey of New Clairvaux. Belgian inspired golden ales are noted for their devilish personalities, but there is nothing mischievous about this complex ale. It is brilliant golden and layered with notes of summery apple and pear and pepperv spice from the use of a traditional Belgian yeast strain. A portion of proceeds from this ale goes toward the restoration of the historic Santa Maria de Ovila chapter house on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux. This medieval building stood for nearly eight centuries in Spain. William Randolph Hearst purchased the monastery 1931 and planned use the stones for a castle even grander than his famous San Simeon. Although Hearst’s, plans crumbled. these historic stones will rise again in a California Cistercian abbey.

Pear and green apple provides a fruity resin aroma. Malt kicks in with the taste. Golden, carbination, and fruit from the yeast give it a wine-like character. Crisp, refreshing, complex. Wife says it?s yum-yums.

clear golden pout with a tall white head. Very fruit forward aroma with lots of nice pear, apple, tons of grape, and golden raisin notes. A mild booziness, sweet pale malt and sugar, some banana, clove, and coriander. A hint of white pepper and yeast, too. Intense white grape flavor to this. Good pear, apple, golden raisin, and banana, too. Moderate malt sweetness and spiciness of clove and white pepper. A hint of citrus peel on the finish.

Flavors of straw, yeast, pear, light pineapple and light white pepper with a crisp dry lingering peppery fruity finish.

This is a nice Golden ale that is relatively easy-drinking. It has a huge white ale. Good blend of flavors, lemon, coriander, slight banana, and bread.

Corked and caged 750 ml bottle with a warning that contents are under pressure. Heed the warning! The cork started popping out on its own as soon as I took the cage off. Pours a crystal clear gold with a gigantic fluffy white head, great retention, outstanding lace, and tons of rising bubbles. Light fruity aromas featuring lemon, pear, apple, black pepper, light malts and Belgian yeast. Pepper flavors accentuate a mostly light malt sweetness, with the aforementioned fruits adding a modest tartness. Light body, exciting effervescence, sticky mouthfeel, and a crisp finish. And extra points for the cause.

Hazy golden color in the glass with a large head. Aroma has grains, yeast and a touch of citrus. Taste has lemons, mild hops and a dryness. Lots of carbonation on the finish.

Solid pop of the cork. Deep hazy amber with rocky white head. Moderate to heavy carbonation. Soft nose of lemon citrus, biscuit, light vanilla, clove, spice, and yeast. Flavor is lightly sweet biscuit and wheat malt with gentle spice. Finishes slightly tart and acidic with lemon citrus and a light carbonic kick. Carbonation clears the delicate sweetness and leaves behing a clean dry finish. Another success in the series.
