3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
750mL bottle purchased at Nugget in Woodland. Holy fuck. About 1-2 seconds after removing the cage, the cork just blew off this thing and hit my ceiling, followed by the beer gushing over. Scared the shit outta me. The aroma on this is relatively faint, with some light barnyardy esters, and not much else. Perhaps a little white pepper. The pour is amazingly carbonated, but after the head settles, there is a mostly transparent golden body and a huge, bubbly white head present. Starts a little spicy with hints of white pepper. Becomes a little olive-like in the middle. Light rubbery flavors come through in the finish. Dusty, lightly barnyardy yeast notes come through towards the end. Finishes dry, and lightly bitter. Meh.

Bottle. Aroma of pear and alcohol. Golden body with medium lasting head. Flavor begins sweet with subtle hints of pear, apple and clove. Light finish with noticeable alcohol. Overall crisp and dry with a nice warming power.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A very soft pour into my Bruery tulip still manages to net four fingers of foam and multiple sessions over the sink in getting rid of the overflow. The beer is a pale amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright, yellow-gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of pear cider, dried, straw like, grain husks, a hint of pale wheat crackers.
The beer is quite dry and light bodied, but there is lots of fruit character that leans towards pears and floral fruit notes. The finish has a touch of sharp alcohol, a bit of solvent, definite clove, and a hint of hop bitterness. The fruit character is the most prominent note here, but it is well balanced by the mixture of bites (previously mentioned) in the finish. There is just a touch of grain character here, perhaps some dried grassiness, but really the malt is almost completely dried out here.
This is actually a great example of a Belgian Golden, clean, crisp, light, with lots of yeast character, but somehow it doesn’t quite do it for me. This is actually quite a good cut at Duvel, perhaps I am just not in the mood.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 mL bottle with a very appropriate pressure warning on top. Cork removes itself across to the other side of the room once the cage is undone. Pours clear golden with many fine particles and a large but receding white head (second half of the bottle is very cloudy). Aroma gives yeasty bubble gum, clove, and apple. Flavor shows apple, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, peppery, and bubble gum notes. Mmm, very nice little beer here.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a hazy gold-straw with a finger of rocky white head that settles in minutes. Aroma is sweet, hay, wheat, grain and slightly fruity.
Flavor is tart wheat, slightly apple, pear up front, fading into mild wheat that lingers. Strong carbonation with a light body, slightly oily, acidic, alcoholic finish. Between the heavy carbonation, bitterness, and noticeable alcohol, it is not so drinkable, but a decent and intense beer nonetheless.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2013 A very tasty Belgian golden ale with notes of pear and pepper. The alcohol content (8.5%) is well-masked. A nice golden color with a full white head.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml. corked n’ caged bottle- Pours hazy golden with a huge three finger bone white head, that cork popped out without me even having to pull on it, massive pressure here. The aroma is very yeasty, banana, some pepper spice. The taste is very smooth, banana and yeast are in the forefront, creamy. The body is medium, carbonation is massive. Overall this was good, would have to compare with the authentic Belgian golden beers to see if it is better or worse, but I liked it.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Corked bottle and served in a Duvel snifter: Pours a clean golden hue with a frothy big head and good lace. The aroma is quite reminiscent of Duvel with plenty of pils malts, subdued fruity esters, peppery and herbal hops and moderate bubblegum and clove yeast esters. The taste is a tad more spicy than Duvel and not has crisp nor clean bittered. That said this still has a yummy combination of yeast notes and pale malts. The spicy and fruity notes do add layers of complexity. In fact I am pretty sure the yeast is taken from the Duvel strain. The mouth feel is sprite and refreshing but still has that alcohol kick and finishing dryness. Yep what you got here is very much a Duvel clone-ish brew and that ain’t so bad... but I would rather have the real thing.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy gold with a small frothy off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is yeast banana and clove. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet fruity malt with pepper and spice and light dry finish. A good Belgian strong ale from Sierra Nevada.
