COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ovila Abbey Quad with plums is heady with aromas of caramel, rich malt, and dark fruit-balanced by the spiciness and delicate fruity notes of a traditional Belgian yeast. This beer features sugar plums grown on the grounds of the Abbey, and harvested by the monks in Vina. We hope you enjoy this collaboration ale.

Okay this one is up and down. Aroma wise its bir tight but there is a definite plume/prune note. Mouth feel is just a tad under to give it a 4. Flavour wise its powerful but smooth. Good follow through. Easy drinker. With a few tweaks it’ll be great.

Bottle: Very dark auburn color with a finger of thick, creamy tan head. Sweet aroma of plum, malt, and yeast. Wonderfully smooth feel and transition of flavors. Minimal yeast, but its there. Plums, grape, Belgian candy sugar, malts and this toffee/pitted fruit vibe that has me thinking of molasses. A little too muchon the sweet side for my taste. The heavy, silky weight keeps it from being syrupy… overall I wanted to like this more, but it fails to live up to the original. Rating #2500! Fitting it’s a Sierra Nevada as SNPA was one of my ’gateway’ beers twelve years ago.

375 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of toffee, tobacco, earthines and light plum. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, tobacco, light earthiness, light plum and a hint of spice with a smooth lingering toffee finish.

375ml corked and caged bottle, from a four pack purchased for 11.50 - I figured just under three bucks a bottle fo a quad aged on plums harvested by monks wasn’t too bad a deal - cork removed with just a small pop - low carbonation evidenced in the pour, but it still manages to settle in with a creamy off white head - dark ruby with a purplish tint - sweet nose of toffee, treacle, raisin, fig, plum, brown sugar, with some balancing spiciness from the yeast, some light oxidized character, a light metallic note - low carbonation, fairly creamy texture - initially very sweet flavor of candied plums, raisin, treacle - some spiciness arrives late, along with some slight peppery phenolics and dusty/earthy qualities, but the high sweetness is never completely balanced - finish has some alcohol heat - pretty solid, but you need to enjoy beers on the sweet side (even for quads).

On tap at State Line tasting. Pours a nearly pitch black color with some garnet hues along the edges, with a thin, creamy, off-white head that fades to a solid ring that lasts till the end. Aroma has a lot of phenols up front creating a slight medicinal aroma, along with a bold sweetness of dark fruits followed by a touch of alcohol. Taste of rich caramel malt and mildly sweet dark fruits. The alcohol is hardly noticeable, and finishes with a sweet kick at the end. Medium bodied with a minimal amount of carbonation.

Dark brown color with a thick tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, plum with a little malt. Flavor is deeply sweet with a combination of malt and fruit. Finishes a little bitter which helps keep it from getting cloying. Some nice spice and herbs throughout. Wife: 4
