COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ovila Abbey Quad with plums is heady with aromas of caramel, rich malt, and dark fruit-balanced by the spiciness and delicate fruity notes of a traditional Belgian yeast. This beer features sugar plums grown on the grounds of the Abbey, and harvested by the monks in Vina. We hope you enjoy this collaboration ale.

Very dark brown with very little head. Dark fruit aroma. Wow, ultra rich and flavorful. Definitely get the sour plum flavors along with dark toffee, brown sugar and caramel malt. Some bitterness on the finish that lends balance. Some booziness. A good combination of sour, sweet and bitter. A nice sipping quad.

On tap. Pours a transparent ruby color with a thin white head. Aroma is yeast, hay, and spice. Taste follows the aroma. Not as much of a plum or dark fruit presence as I would have liked.

"A tiny step down from the original (non sugar plum release) due to a bit more residual sweetness and alcohol bite, but still damn good. Dark fruits, brown sugar, plums, tobacco, sugary sweet. Almost overwhelming, but quite tasty. Kinda going towards a three Phils with the quad fruit hybrid."

Tap at the Old Toad. Orange-brown, cloudy, with lace. Nose of plums, cinnamon and spice, caramel, apples or mulled cider. A bit too light for a quad, in color and body. More like a big fruity tripel. Good, but has that typical "American attempt to brew a quad" lack.

Aroma is sweet and a little boozy. Notes of dried fruit (raisins), cherry. The plummy warmth creates a sherry-like quality. Smells almost liqueur-like. Taste is very sweet initially (a little cloying) with sweet-ripe fruit. More cherries, plums. Toasty-malt residue before a light spicy bitterness. Some alcohol warmth. Decent balance and super flavor profile. Just a feeling that the alcohol taste needs reigning in a touch . Good sipper.

Dark brown pour with about a finger of foam. Dark fruit, caramel, and alcohol on the nose. Plum, malt, caramel, and a mild alcohol finish.

Dark fruits with candied sugar on the nose with a hint of booze. Bitter hop slap at the end with good carb. This bottle was aged at least eight months and is super smooth.

Light head that dissipates quickly. Almost the color of a coffie shake. Pit fruit notes on the nose and a color similar to root beer. Light brown with rich red notes in the color. A little bitterness on the back. Kinda of like black coffee. Light carbonation.

Poured hazy chestnut brown with a small, thin tan head that was gone quickly. Pleasant aroma of nutty malt mixed with plum and a touch of yeast. Perhaps some caramel too. Full body with a mild thickness. Light boozy astringency in the finish. Nutty and caramel malt flavors mixed with plum and a touch of spice. Mild note of earthy yeast at the back. Very good.

Rich deep copper coloured body with brown, ruby and a muddy glow all visible. Aroma of pit fruits, caramelised sugars, alcohol and quite a bit of earthy malt noticeable. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich earthy malt flavours dominate, along with yeast, light spices and quite a bit of alcohol, all with some pit fruits (plums, naturally) sweetening up the finish. Aftertaste shows a lot of depth with sugars, alcohol and spices all noticeable, but the yeast and pit fruits give it some more depth. Overall, a nice quad, but not comparable in the slightest to the offerings from belgium. I sampled this 37,5 split bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 09-February-2014 for only US$3,99 sampled at home in Washington on the celebration of my fifth wedding anniversary on 09-August-2014.
