COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An homage to the monk’s noble work, this unique farmhouse ale is incredibly complex with notes of lemon, pepper, straw and herbs balanced by the tang of Mandarin oranges and a spicy kick of pepper. The Mandarin oranges used to make this beer were locally grown, including a portion grown on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux and picked by hand by the community of monks living there. We hope you enjoy this collaboration ale.

Bottle from Beer Cartel 260516. Make no mistake this is a seriously good beer that looks amazing in the glass with a deep orange colour and a head that is there one minute and gone the next. Aroma is quite subtle with citrus and some sweetness mixed in with it. In the mouth there is the flavour that you get when you bite into a segment of a fresh sweet mandarin and right back in the finish there is a peppery kick, again subtle. Well brewed as are all Sierra Nevada beers.

Pours a golden yellow with minimal fizzy head. Musty hay aromas with a dry slightly fruity taste.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2016 Fairly clear amber pour with a much smaller beige head than normally created by a saison. Sweet aromas of honey, mandarin, coriander, only a little straw, some bubblegum(?). The taste is also quite sweet - prominent candi sugar, slightly burned toffee, lemon, mandarin, lots of spice, fresh crusty bread, a little straw. Dry finish. Medium to full bodied and very lightly acidic. Quite enjoyable but more in line with a spiced belgian golden strong ale than a saison.

Poured from bottle into snifter, can taste all the notes described on bottle. A touch bright and carbonated, but a decent brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Stone in Asagaya. Pours a hazy orange with a small foamy ring that lasts throughout on the edge of the glass. Orange marmalade, honey tea, apple and light citrus compote. Crazy sweet on the palate...like marmalade sweet. Bread and honey like body that weighs down the beer and starts to get a little cloying. Peppercorns on the finish. Not bad, but too sweet and heavy for my kind of saison.

I am a fan of Saison-style... And this one certainty does not disappoint. In fact, I believe this could be my favorite beer of this fall. Bottle at home. Mouthfeel is bread, creamy. All spice, pepper, maybe a little honey. Nice citrus notes. Love this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home, purchased from ABC Winter Haven. Aroma is Belgian yeast, peppery, hay or straw notes. Pours a golden blonde with a fluffy white head that dies out. Flavor is crisp citrus notes, some peppery flavors, spices. Overall, it’s quite dry. Not bad.

Pours clear amber with a thick and frothy eggshell head. Aroma starts with a malty core and then adds orange, pepper and herbal tones plus a snip of woody hops. Distinctive, and enticing! Flavor delivers all that the aroma promises, except that the fruit component is stronger, and has a bit of lemon; a little yeast comes out as well. Mouthfeel is firm and features a strong and lasting fizz. Get monkish!
