COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An homage to the monkís noble work, this unique farmhouse ale is incredibly complex with notes of lemon, pepper, straw and herbs balanced by the tang of Mandarin oranges and a spicy kick of pepper. The Mandarin oranges used to make this beer were locally grown, including a portion grown on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux and picked by hand by the community of monks living there. We hope you enjoy this collaboration ale.

Lovely saison with hints of orange and cracked pepper. Perhaps a touch of coriander on the finish.

12.7 oz bottle, corked and caged. Nose is very sweet, heavy candy with sugared/candied plums, red berry jam, just loads of fruit in the best Belgian tradition with good yeast contribution and cherry, prune, raisin, lighter citrus. Just a little booze. Ultra-clear orange-red with above-avg carb and a short-libed beige head. Taste is semi dry, scratchy with late kick from the black pepper, good stiff malt with herbal and earthy hops to balance. Slightly oily with a lot of alcohol heat, but itís the classy kind so Iíll let it do what it wants (probably combining with mild black pepper spice heat). A bit scratchy on the back of the palate and throat, some strong cherry and orange marmalade, vanilla, faint herbs with subtle ester/phenol development. Great melding and blending of many flavors, and fresh and clean all over. A little too much air in the medium-full body and thereís a sense that itís been filtered beyond recognition, but otherwise Iím in love!

Pours clear golden hue with white fluffy head that quickly dissipates. It has floral aroma with hint of citrus. The flavor is a blend of banana, vanilla, and cream. It finishes easy.

From the bottle: Clear copper orange with some cream colored foam that settles soon. Aromas of honeysuckle, hay, mandarin, yeast, some alcohol. The flavor opens with some bright citrus and fruit, atop solid bready abbey ale, adequately not overly sweet, with a slight pepper bite and a touch of alcohol warmth. Slightly syrupy, it thins a bit with warming. I think itís well done; a delicious alternative to hop blasts or lower abv warm weather brews.

On draught at Roscoeís. Crystal clear deep golden color. Aroma is pepper spice, light yeast, slightly unripened oranges. Taste is bubblegum, sweet orange, pepper, honey, and sweetly tart yeast. Light syrup mouthfeel with a lasting tart and sweet orange finish.

I like how Sierra goes from totally approachable beers to esoteric ones. After all this saison is a collaboration effort. I like the presentation mostly. Barely visible head. A fresh spring aroma. Citrus. The taste is flat and powdery. I didnít sense the oranges or other spices. It seems like a saison not as well done as Boulevard or Prairie Artisan. It lacks body or a clean aftertaste. Plain. Ordinary. It feels like it wants to be something but canít connect with an identity and as a result the drinker is confused. Still I cant fault Sierra for not trying.

Orange color, firm head. Oranges in the aroma, peppers, some hint of rye. INCREDIBLY estery on the tongue, bone sucking dry, a bit unbalanced. Another seasonal beer from a good brewery that I dont like. Pity...

Sampled on 6/22/2014. This Saison pours a medium dark orange gold color from a 375ml corked and caged bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruit and sweet, with a touch of orange and spice. A touch of pepper and grass as well. Medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and bready. The hops are earthy and spicy. A touch of orange and some white pepper in the background. Nice carbonation. Light and refreshing. A nicely balanced saison, the orange sweetness/tartness is up front with the peppercorns balancing in out at the finish. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
