3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12.7 oz. corked & caged bottle. A cloudy amber/rust pour with a thick and creamy beige head. The yeasty aroma features quite a bit of bananas, candi sugar, caramel, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, cantaloupe, lemons, oranges, citrus rinds, and some musty funk. An excellent toasted graininess becomes apparent with a little warmth. Medium-bodied and relatively creamy on the way down. The taste starts with some caramel and candi sugar. Just a tad bready. Bananas and vanilla in the middle. Oranges, lemons, and zesty citrus rinds finish things off. A big dash of pepper adds a decent kick at the end. Yeasty and spicy with some warming alcohol throughout. Pretty good, but I was expecting even more from this one.

Bottle. Golden orange with small head. Fruity Saison with excellent flavor. Light funk. Really dig the mandarin oranges in this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured into a tulip glass. Tons of mandarin oranges on the nose, with some yeast and a trace of candi sugar. Itís a blush, almost pinkish orange color, with a pillowy, cream-colored head that stays around. The farmhouse funky flavor is the best feature of the taste. The orange is almost too sweet, and the higher ABV is more evident in the taste than the nose, where itís almost imperceptible. Itís a super-complex beer with tons of fun stuff going on, and I feel like I should like it more than I do. Overall, itís just a tad sweet for me, but itís a really impressive example of a Belgian-style saison done by a California brewery.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12.7 ounce caged and corked bottle. Served in a tulip, the beer pours an amber/orange color with an inch white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like peppercorns, bready malt, oranges, peaches, sweet spices, and some wheat/bready malt. I think the taste is just like the aroma. However, I think the peppery spice and wheat flavors are the strongest. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís a bit slick and creamy, and is also well carbonated. I think itís a solid overall brew. $12.99 a 4-pack.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
375 ml bottle via local trade. Pours a mostly clear tea color with a small off-white head that immediately settles into a ring with some light wisps of film. Aroma of caramel malts, leaves, mandarin oranges, minor spice, rye toast, and some wet cardboard. Flavor of mandarin, pepper, rye, lemon, tea, toffee, and sweet malts. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation that becomes sneakily crisp in the middle and finishes smooth and dry. Lingering malt sweetness. Really odd. My least favorite of the overall excellent Ovila lineup so far, but not bad.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Coleís. Cloudy peach coloured with a minimal head. Medium mouthfeel. Peachy taste throughout, with tangerine flavour building up through the pint. Some pepper in the finish. Better as it warms.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
tap at Dash In - This draft brew has an aroma of spices, citrus, and yeast. Itís bubbly with that distinctive herbal, fruity saison flavor profile and a very good one at that. Itís medium to full bodied and is sweet with a slightly dry finish.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Sweet and citrus are the headliners in this complex aroma heavy saison. I couldn't put my finger on the appropriate "meaty-protein" flavor that is accompanying this buttery wave of amber. (Been vegetarian too long) It is both alarming and pleasant. The pepper finish is a great call by these clearly talented brew masters.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle [12.7oz]. Pours a deep orange-amber with a small lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, fruit, honey, light pepper, other spices and caramel malt. Nice flavour, sweet, yeasty and fruity, along with spices, a touch of alcohol, caramel malt and a long-ish dry, spicy finish. Medium bodied, good carbonation. Well made and enjoyable.

GBBF Day 1. Light haze on this gold beer. Small bubbly white head. Smooth palate, slightly soft. Sweet saison yeast, dry. Mild spice. Not really getting that much fruit. Dry finish with more spice. Itís fine.
