An homage to the monk’s noble work, this unique farmhouse ale is incredibly complex with notes of lemon, pepper, straw and herbs balanced by the tang of Mandarin oranges and a spicy kick of pepper. The Mandarin oranges used to make this beer were locally grown, including a portion grown on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux and picked by hand by the community of monks living there. We hope you enjoy this collaboration ale.

Transfer from BA review on 8-25-13- Poured from bottle into a chalice glass Appearance – The beer pours a murky copper color with a one finger foamy-just off white head. The head has a great level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave a tremendous level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is bready and yeasty with lots of spice of clove and coriander. Some lighter aromas of caramelized sugar and some orange citrus fruit are there as well as some very light hints of pepper. Taste – The taste starts out with a smooth wheaty taste as well as a smooth tangerine orange flavor. A yeast cake and spice flavor of coriander and clove quickly come to the tongue. These flavors all create a base for the brew and persist to the end while other flavors also join in. Toward the middle to the end some flavors of pepper and grassy come to the tongue. At the end a little bit of a alcohol taste to leave a nice smooth Belgian spiced orange and wheaty taste on the tongue Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner side in its creaminess and thickness with a carbonation that is average to slightly below average for the style. The two combined, accentuate the very smooth flavors of the brew giving it a very easy drinking style but having just enough of an alcohol presence to keep you in check. Overall – A very smooth and easy drinking saison. Not a flavor powerhouse and nothing super out of the ordinary, but very tasty and very easy drinking none the less.

Touch of barnyard rotten eggs with some soy sauce over skunky. It’s lite bodied with a soft brownish orange lite body.

"Darker in color, fruitier, and slighty more spicy pepper character than the original. The mandarins are a nice touch. This heavier than usual for the style beer took a while to open up, but once it did. I really liked the interplay between the citrus, bubble gummy yeast, spice and pepper."

Tap at the Bee Hive. Deep orange color, hazy, with lace. spicy, herbal nose, oranges, malt, a bit of smoke. Flavor is sweet biscuit and orange, spicy, grassy, quite bitter. Ok. Still a bit too bready, sweet and spicy for me.

Bottle. Pours clear golden amber with thin, fizzy white head. Aroma is cereal and toasted malts, light straw, faint caramel, orange peel, and light spice. Flavor is dry malts, light toast, light citrus esters, faint spicy hops, and some farmhouse yeast esters; dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

saison with a nice addition of pepper. The pepper really stands out in the nose and is well complimented by the yeast and citrus/wheat notes.

12.7oz bottle. Unfiltered orange-tan body. Creamy off-white head. A pretty tasty beer, not sure it really nails Saison though, the body is really creamy and yeasty. The orange and pepper accentuates the herbal funkiness of the yeast strain, which isn’t really a bonus. Some banana tones. Quality feel, great mouthfeel. Good but not really a definitive example of the style.
