COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An homage to the monk’s noble work, this unique farmhouse ale is incredibly complex with notes of lemon, pepper, straw and herbs balanced by the tang of Mandarin oranges and a spicy kick of pepper. The Mandarin oranges used to make this beer were locally grown, including a portion grown on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux and picked by hand by the community of monks living there. We hope you enjoy this collaboration ale.

37.5cl corked and caged bottle pours with a clear copper body that has gold edges and supports a twenty second long off white head. The aroma offers up sweetness, brown sugar, prunes, raisins and some muted mild spicy yeastiness. This doesn’t smell much like a saison. The taste hits hard with brown sugar, candi sugars and then raisins and prune like dark fruity esters. It then picks up a slim sweet citrus note that blends into a modest cracked pepper sensation. Good tasting brew but a saison style? Not sure about that.

Clear light amber with a bit of lace, not much head after a minute of it in the glass. Great aroma of citrus and bread and wheat and a bit of pepper (but I get that morr in the palate.) Nothing to write home about but a solid saison.

@ Galvins / Georgetown KY --- Aroma of malt and orange. Clear medium orange amber with a rim head and thin lace streaks. Taste is sweet malt with light buttery donut and fresh hay overtones. It turns slightly bitter in the finish before moving to a bittersweet orange blossom that lingers nicely. Kind of like Southern sweetened ice tea with orange. Really easy to drink.

From the stamp on the bottle, it looks like this was bottled March 28, 2014. Gorgeous pour here. Depp golden colour with a huge head of foam that leaves lots of lovely lacing behind. Big spicy nose with notes of pepper, cloves, lemon, and oranges that add a slight hint of tartness. Dang, ditto for the taste. So true to the smell. The cloves and pepper go so well with that big lemon and orange, spicy hop, slightly tart flavours that it’s scary. I do get some mild biscuit that seem to grow as the sipping continues. It’s also cool that the abv is very manageable. The mouthfeel seems slick with perfect carbonation and a nice medium body. I think this is a very fine effort from Sierra Nevada...my favourite of their Ovila series.

Bottle. Moderate cereal and caramel for the malt, heavy perfume, herbs and orange for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with peach, dried apricots and sherry in the background. Head is small, fizzy, slightly off-white with slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy dark amber orange. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium and little slick with a lively carbonation. Big hop complexity and a strong malt backbone from this Saison.

Bottle pour. Sour orange, citrus aroma. Quick fading head. This beer comes off as a little sweet at first, but turns bold in the finish with dark fruit. Not quite getting as much peppercorn as I was expecting, but overall I love this beer. Very well done.

A little over sweet, sweet finish, malty murky flavors. Maybe too old? Oh well too many beers
