An homage to the monk’s noble work, this unique farmhouse ale is incredibly complex with notes of lemon, pepper, straw and herbs balanced by the tang of Mandarin oranges and a spicy kick of pepper. The Mandarin oranges used to make this beer were locally grown, including a portion grown on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux and picked by hand by the community of monks living there. We hope you enjoy this collaboration ale.

GBBF Day 1. Light haze on this gold beer. Small bubbly white head. Smooth palate, slightly soft. Sweet saison yeast, dry. Mild spice. Not really getting that much fruit. Dry finish with more spice. It’s fine.

Bottle, 375ml corked. A dense, finger-thick off-white head sits on top of a lightly hazy dark golden body. The aroma is rather banana-ish and toffee-ish, with a faint spiced touch and some orange. Spiced hints too, not much Saison yeast impact. The alcohol is detectable in both nose and mouth. The flavor is quite sweet, with banana, toffee, a spiced hint and orange. Full body, soft and smooth, with a little alcohol warmth. Some bitterness in the else sweet finish with banana, some toffee and spices. Not much of a saison this one, but quite decent anyway. 130819

Orange pour with a white head. Nose of sweet orange, bread, banana, and white grapes. Some pepper, a touch of lemon zest, and yeast. The flavor is sweet up front with some dryness to the finish. Plenty of orange character, a bit of lemon, and some bread. Not much pepper, but some, and a yeasty finish.
